One of my nephews calls me "Tia". He couldn't say Aunt, Auntie, Aunt Heather or even Heather. Tia he could manage without fail and it was a perfectly respectable name IMO. If he associates that with me then I'm ok with it. My kid brother and his wife were fine with it as well. We knew Jackson had a minor speech delay and whatever he called me was fine.
My older brother heard Jackson call me Tia and went off on me. "Why the fvck is he calling you TIA? You're not Mexican! You're White!" I tried explaining that his son, the first grandchild couldn't say Granddad and the name he could say was Dan-Dan. Everyone was fine with that. I found a word that meant Aunt that Jackson could say and I was fine with it. What's the problem?
Ever since then he screams at me that I'm not hispanic in ANY way (because clearly I wasn't aware all my life just how caucasian I am) and how TIA is NOT ok with him and WTF was I thinking. I asked him if "Thea" would be more acceptable since that's the Greek word for Aunt.
What a jackhole! My nephew is 4 and is now self conscious over his name for me and getting yelled at by his Uncle. Ugh some people.

He's a freaking douche. I told him Mom and Dad installed a filter on the family gene pool after he was born. Asshat.
He's ignorant! kick him in the junk
If I could junk punch him I would. There's just something wrong with him.
Hahaha! When I first read this, I totally thought you meant you couldnt punch him in the junk because there was something wrong with him...and he didnt HAVE junk! BWAHAHA!
What a jerk. Something similar happened to me when I was around 4 or 5 and I will always remember.
My uncle is white, but I had always called him Tio. He asked me once why I call him that if he's white. I just told him, "Because you're my Tio." He left it alone, and I still call him Tio. For me, that is his name and will always be his name.
It's like my mom's name is Judy (used to be Leonor) and everyone calls her Noicey b/c that what one my aunts called her when they were little. Kids should be able to give someone a name they can say with out feeling self-conscious about it is all I'm sayin'.
One of my nieces calls me Tia Erin.
::looks at skin color::
Yup, I'm white!
He always says it. It's just gotten to where it makes Jackson feel bad and Rick tries to make me feel bad for being called Tia.
This is just stupid. What difference does it make?
Is he racist?
