Fighting Naps

In the past week, LO has started fighting taking naps.  I usually rock him to sleep, and every time I start rocking him he starts crying/fussing.  It can last up to 5-10 minutes before he calms down and goes to sleep.

Just laying him in his crib to fall asleep doesn't work either.

Anyone else have this?  He does fine going down at night, it is just during the day.  He's fine the rest of the day, until it gets to be nap time.  I just wonder how long he'll keep this up.

Re: Fighting Naps

  • Yes!! She is up fighting it now. Slept like 20 minutes and now doesnt want to play, eat or sleep. Just a lot of crying. I think its her teething but not sure. But she also sleeps okay at night (10pm till 7 am last night)........

  • Ditto, so I throw her in the swing during the day for a snooze or she'll sleep in her stroller when we are out.  She really fights the crib for naps, but is just fine at night, so it isn't all bad!
  • We've been having the exact same problem with DS. He goes down like a dream a night and sleeps wonderfully, but he is horrible at taking naps! Whenever he starts getting sleepy and I try to rock him to sleep he throws a fit - crying, kicking, spitting out the pacifier, etc. Finally after like 10 minutes he'll go to sleep. Then he only sleeps like 30 minutes unless I let him lay down with me in the bed. It is getting so frustrating!

  • DD did this really badly between 5-9 weeks. She would SCREAM for several minutes even with her eyes closed sometimes! I found that if I helped her to calm down and just have some chill time or help her to go down the moment I noticed her eyes getting heavy, it helped to prevent the screaming. Basically by the time she was screaming, it was because she realized she was tired.

  • DS is doing this -- just this week, and apparently only at home with us in the evening.  He sleeps great at daycare, but at home it's another story.  He's not wanting to sleep and when he gives us his sleepy cues, all our attempts to help him fall asleep are met with fussing and crying.

He's 16 weeks, so it seems he's also going through the 4-month wakeful.  Coincidence?
