Any advice? re: naked child at night

So this morning J started calling out at 6am (exceptionally early for him). DH went in to see what he needed (and hope to get him back to sleep) but he was completely naked and evidently had been all night His night diaper was completely dry, but his bed/blankets/puppy/etc were all soaked in pee.

This is not the first time this has happened, but it's not exceptionally frequent either. Any suggestions on getting my child to stay clothed & w/ his diaper on?

FYI: His door does not open quietly, so we typically don't check on him after we put him down because he usually wakes up.

  • sorry but this is funny.  I'm not sure what I would do.  hopefully he grows out of it.  Nic was up at 5:30am this morning too! it was terrible.

  • No advice but this post made me LOL!  2 year olds are strange creatures for sure!  Hope you figure out a way to keep him clothed! :)  Hopefully it's one of those short lived phases where he quickly realizes it's really not all that much fun to be naked and wet all night as opposed to clothed and dry!

  • Eli went for a long time where he refused to wear clothes at night, so we let him sleep naked.  He had never been one to take off his diaper though, so I can't help you with that.  You think a pull up woud help?  Eli wears the overnight kind and they hold well.

  • I have a friend who used to put her kids in zip up footless pajamas, but put them on backwards. They wouldn't be able to reach the zipper to undress. Maybe that would work?

  • We've had to put Caroline's diaper on backwards and use duct tape to keep it on.

  • Christian did this a few times, and we just started putting him in PJs that could not remove himself.

Hahahah! That is hysterical! I fear this. Keria is starting to strip lately. A few times we have gone in to get her and her pj's are unzipped and half off.

  • Thanks for the suggestions!

This has only been happening in zip-up PJs, so I guess we'll just stick to 2-pc. If that doesn't work we'll try out duct tape or overnight Pull-Ups.

And I agree...it is pretty funny!

Oh yeah, Liam is masterful with zippers!  We haven't done one piece pjs in a while, but he still wears a sleepsack (I know, I know LOL) and he unzips it and takes it off himself every morning.  Hopefully the 2 piece pjs will help keep him contained! :)

  • A went through the same phase when we first started potty training. She's now outgrown it (thank God!). We used the duct tape b/c she figured out how to get the pullups off too. She would get her zipped and regular pj's off, diaper off. And we had a couple times where she pooped and it was EVERYWHERE! Fun times.
