I feel likd DD still needs swaddling because the second she starts to stir the hands go right in her face and wake her up. She does sleep better with a swaddle, but constantly breaks out of it too..... what to do.

We started letting one arm out for a few days. Then one night, I undid his swaddle to check his diaper, fed him, he fell asleep, so I didn't bother to swaddle him again. He did very well, so I didn't bother to swaddle him as part of his bedtime routine the next night. He has been sleeping just as long or longer stretches since. That said, his hands don't really wake him up if they are by his face.
We were having the same problem last night we tried the Magic Sleep Suit for the first time and she seemed to like it. She slept from about 9:15pm until I had to wake her at 7am to go to daycare. I'm remaining optimistically skeptical, but I hoping for the best in the nights to come. It kept her cozy, like a swaddler, but allows her some movement. My husband referred to it as a "space suit," but at this point my attitude is "whatever works!"

We just quit cold turkey when she turned 3 mths. She was already getting one or both arms out by morning so we just stopped doing it all together. It didn't seem to phase her at all.

we swaddled them both ev night in the zip up swadle pods. they were really starting to outgrow them so around four and a half months the night of their four mth check up we juust put them in pjs and didnt swaddle. they wewre fine. never had a moments problem and we havent swaddled since. tthe hands go upto their faces but it isnt a big deal i guess.try to just not swaddle see what hapens. i was dreading it bigtime but its been fine
We stopped cold turkey a few days after she turned 4mo. She took a bit longer to fall asleep the first few nights but nothing horrible. Its amazing how much she moves around now! And she prefers her side! So cute!
We tried one night at 3mo and she didn't know what to do with her poor hands. She kept flailing them around and could NOT fall asleep. It was so sad ... so we swaddled again. Pedi says at 4mo, they really don't need it anymore and that's a good time to stop.
I did one arm for a while. Which actually worked great because then they could self sooth better by sucking their thumbs. I don't give them pacifiers at night. After a week and a half I tried both arms out and just wrapped it around their waists. That went fine so after two nights of that I got rid of it all together. It's been three nights without and they've been fine. I really think the key was doing one arm first.
Re: how to stop swaddling?
DS was swaddled up until a couple of days ago when we put him in this:

Sorry its not clicky. He can still move his arms, but they don't come flying at his face. He sleeps really well in it.
Oops, I just saw that it takes you to the entire page. Its the Just One Year snowsuit looking thing with the little bear on it.
