Toddlers: 12 - 24 Months

DD just told me she pooped

She said "poop poop" then started grunting. She pooped and then pointed to her diaper and said "poop poop." She's 13 months old. Surely this isn't a sign that she's ready to potty train.

This isn't the first time she has told me she has to poop or has pooped in her diaper.

Re: DD just told me she pooped

  • DS does this too but not consistently so I haven't bought a potty yet.

  • DD doesn't say "poop poop" but everytime she goes pee or poo she lifts her dress up or points to her diaper. She's done it before she was 1 even.

However, it doesn't mean I'm starting to potty train her just yet. I just encourage her and say, "OH did you poop poop?! Ok let's go change your diaper!"

Hopefully it just means they will be easier to potty train!? Wishful thinking!

  • That's fabulous!

Paloma has started pointing at her butt when we asked her if she has peed. I think it's step one in toilet training - but I'm sure there are a whole LOT more steps to get through yet!

  • DD goes to the potty about 3-4 times a day.  She pretty much always poops on the potty unless she goes during the night or during her nap and she will tell me she has to pee a few other times.  DD is only 16 mos old so it's def possible that she's starting to understand.

**I'm not saying that DD is potty trained by any means but she definitely is starting to understand going to the potty**

  • Mine has been doing this for a while, and she'll often tell us she needs to poop before she does so. However, if I ask her if she wants to go on the potty, she says no. And if I ask if she needs a new diaper after, she runs away from me. Yes, acknowledgment is step one, but there's way more to go before they're actually ready I think.
  • DS tells us afterwards, but I don't plan on trying the potty just yet. I'll consider it once he starts telling me ahead of time.
Um, yeah. The Bump be too crazy for pics of my kid.
  • DS goes to the bathroom door and knocks when he has to poop. He was pretty much pooping on the potty all the time until he recently got a stomach virus and has been having loose stools. I'm hoping after we get rid of this virus we can get back into that routine. He has only peed once or twice on the potty and thats when he poops in the potty.
  • Wow, smart girl! When I ask DS if he pooped he just looks at me with a blank expression.
