Baby Names

Virginia *insert middle name here*

Hello, ladies! I've lurked here a bit, but never posted on this board before. :)

So I'm 18w, unknown gender. If it's a boy, we're going with Zachary Coyt (don't love Coyt but it's a family name for DH).

If it's a girl, we're set on Virginia as the first name, but we can't agree on a middle name, or even come close. I would love to use Miriam, but my husband hates it. SO, we're open to suggestions. I'm looking for something that doesn't end in '-a' or similar, and our last name is Xxxxman.

As an aside, I spent AGES looking for a name to honor my deceased mother. Her name was Linda Sue, & I dislike both names & any variations, so I was going for something meaning 'beautiful' (same as Linda) or similar. No luck. Then tried anything Hawaiian (she grew up there), or containing the syllable 'mi' (means beautiful in Japanese). Still no luck. Ideas???

  • I like Susannah, but you must not.

I love the Hawaiian name idea but don't know enough Hawaiian names for you. You'd have to Google it.

    Mireya? Milena? Emily?

  • I did consider Susannah for a while, but then decided against it for two reasons, the two -a ending names, and also I didn't want the nickname possibility of "Ginny Sue"... entirely to southern for me! :)
  • I see what you mean about "Ginny Sue!" I like the Lin idea posted above.

  • How about "Naomi" - it's a known name in both English and Japanese?

Some Hawaiian names (I grew up there): Leimomi, Malia, Nani, Hokulani

Other Japanese names with "mi" (I'm Japanese-American): Mika, Misaki, Mirai (my DD's middle name), Minako, Miori, Harumi (since you're due in the spring - means "beautiful spring").  Mieko

  • Pocky, thanks so much for so many ideas! I will definitely share these with DH tonight! :)

Even though he's actually Scottish & German, my husband looks half Japanese - so I think that makes a Japanese name even more appropriate :D

You're welcome!  If these don't work out, post again.  I'll try to think of more.

ETA: just thought of a few more Hawaiian names - Leilani, Kanani, Kiana, Lani, Maile, Nalani, Noelani
