Ok so for those that pull names for xmas....

Im interested in doing this next year possibly...

Do you pull a name and your DH pulls a name as well?

Do you put a $ limit on the gifts?

  • Everyone pulls a name in our family. We put a limit of $25-30.

  • DH and I both pull a name.  We usually set a limit.  Some years it's $30, other years it's been $10, it's just whatever his siblings feel comfortable with.
  • yeah, each of us draws a name, but sometimes we switch if it makes more sense. We dont put the kids into it, they are fair game for everyone.

We try to keep a 25-30 dollar limit on it.  This is the first year we are doing it with H's family, and I guess they didnt get the whole...this is to stop the ridiculous spending for the holidays part of it, and the limit per person is 75.  Ugh.  Cause, you know, a teacher and stay at home mom really want to blow 150 bucks on two people.

    Sorry, minor vent there.

  • Some years we will pull names, and we spend $25.00. Other years, we will have a man buy a man's gift, and a woman buy a woman's gift. We spend $25.00 when we do this as well.
  • Yes and Yes

Every person pulls one name.  Our limit is $25.00.

  • We each pull a name.  And it can't be a spouse, so if you get one, we all have to pick again.  Our limit is $30.
  • My mom's family is huge and we started pulling names a few years ago. We pull three names, me, DH and Trent. The limit is $20. It's fun because it's a small limit so people put a lot of time and effort finding something to match that person. Plus it really cuts the cost down and makes the holiday more fun IMO. I wish DH's families would do it!
  • My MILs side of the family does this. We pick names, you can't get your immediate family or you have to pick again. Since we are the only ones in the family that have LOs, they aren't included in the name picking, and everyone buys for them. Our limit this yr is $30. So on Thanksgiving, when we are all together, everyone gets a sheet of paper and puts their name on it with 3-4 things in the price range that they want. It makes it easier to buy that way.
  • We do this on my Mimi's side (Mom's mother) & my Grandma's (Stepdad's mother). The limit is $20 & everyone 12 & older is included. We don't include the little kids because then DH & I would have to buy 5 gifts next year since we have both of us SS, DD, & new baby. On my Mimi's side the family is pretty big. There is my mim & papap, mom & her DH, my uncle & his wife, my other uncle & his gf, plus 10 cousins, me, & 3 of us have kids. I have two. So that's 23 people. We've started to do a "goodies exchange" where we make cookies or candy or other goodies & we make a tray for each "family."
  • Yes, we both draw. Yes we set a limit - it varies year to year depending on the financial situation of those involved.
  • We have a very small family, so we don't do a Secret Santa for them. I, however, have a lot of really close friends at work and we do it there. Sometimes we include the DH's but not this year. (We originally talked about putting the couple's name in a hat but scraped that idea.)  Our limit is $40 (a little pricey IMO). You can do whatever you'd like! Make your own fun rules!!
  • Do you pull a name and your DH pulls a name as well? Yes, and it cannot be your spouse.

Do you put a $ limit on the gifts? Yes, $100, although next year I am going to talk about lowering it.
