Toddler Sleep ?

:::yawn::::

Caleb has been waking up in the 5 o'clock hour for about a month. (i guess since daylight savings). He goes to bed around 7 and he used to sleep close to 12 hours. His bedtime is still the same. Does this mean he doesn't need as much sleep anymore? Five is just SO early and I've been working nights so I can't get to bed early. Anyone ever successfully helped a toddler learn to sleep later?

Re: Toddler Sleep ?

  • i'm here with you! we've even pushed ds's bedtime back to about 730/8 and he still wakes up between 5-530.  i would love it if he'd sleep til 630!  anytime before 6 is just way too early!! *yawn*

    i hope someone has some good suggestions!

  • Nic's schedule was thrown off w/ daylight savings then we went on vacation and he wouldn't get to bed until 9pm-10pm so he slept until past 7am.  Once we got back he is sleeping until 7am and sometimes comes back to bed w/ us (on weekends) and sleeps until 8am.
  • Ella's been off since DST too.  We tried pushing her bedtime back in 15 min increments, but it's hit / miss whether she sleeps later.  The problem with the "misses" is she's so dang tired by 7pm that when we try to push back - she has a meltdown.  She's been getting up around 6 or 6:15ish which although not early, makes getting ready in the morning for work a little more challenging.  GL - wish I had some suggestions for you.  Do you leave him in the crib when he gets up or do you go right in to get him.  Maybe leave a book or 2 in the crib to occupy himself?

  • How many hours total does he nap during the day?

    If he's getting too much sleep during the day, that might be cutting down on his night time sleep.

    You also could try slowly pushing back his bedtime to 8 p.m. so that his ten hours of sleep runs until 6 a.m.
