Stripping Hair Color?

I know there are different opinions on dyeing hair.  Some Dr.'s say it's okay, some say it isn't, hairdressers say it's fine, etc...  I am curious though if we have any hairdressers or anyone with experience with this.  Would it be okay to get the hair color stripped out of my hair.  I am naturally a blonde and right now I have brown hair.  I want to strip my hair which they would then need to follow it up with color of my natural color.  Can anyone shed some light on this?

TIA Ladies!!!

Re: Stripping Hair Color?

  • The stuff they use to strip hair dye is way harsher than the usual highlighting or dye that you get at the salon, in my experience. I did this once and it stunk up the whole salon and made my eyes water. It was at an Aveda salon, so you'd think the products would be gentle. It also trashes your hair.

  • I am a Hairstylist and I would be ok with performing  this service being pregnant myself. I know its not the same as getting it done but I would be smelling the same chemicals.Of course I always recommend my clients to ask there doctor but as soon as people heard I was pregnant everyone was worried about me being around all the chemicals. My Doctor said that as long as I didnt ingest any of the haircolor I was fine! And We dont have to worry about that!LOL!

That being said I rarely ever recommend stripping my clients hair. If you would like to go back to blonde I would suggest just doing a ton of hilites and working towards going lighter and lighter. Plus the foils are off the scalp so you wouldnt have to worry at all. Thats Just my professional opinion though.

This, this and this!!!  Stripping your color almost always leaves you with a really harsh color.  I am a hairdresser too and think it's fine as well, but I would definitely go with the highlights instead of the stripping.

  • That is great to hear this.  I think I will be avoiding stripping my hair then and I will be doing the highlights.  Thanks a million ladies.

  • I'm off to the salon tomorrow to get a color.  My doctor said 2nd trimester is fine for color.  I'm also using Aveda which might be a tad bit better???
