Baby Names

Overdue and back again: girls! feedback please

I've posted a few times already and probably will be here until this baby finally shows up.

For girls, we love Emily Jane or Lauren Nicole but are not set on either. I can't decide. I like the idea of honoring grandmothers Millie & Jane but am holding back on using Emily b/c (1) it's so popular and has been so popular for so many years (lots of Emilys out there) and (2) it's a little informal for me as a given name. But clearly, I do like it.

We don't want to use Millie, Millicent or Mildred. DH has already firmly vetoed Emilia.

What do you think of these alternatives as opposed to Emily? DH will probably veto them but I'm still looking for options:

--Camilla Jane KAZ-per-zak? (NN Milla? Not Cami)

--Milena Jane? (can be pronounced Mi-LEE-nah or Mi-LAH-na) I really like this name, and we do have some Polish/Czech background but not like first generation--is it too "foreign?" (NNs Millie, or Lena, Mila, Mia, or whatever).

DD is Katie Rose.

What do you think of these names? Do you like them more or less than Emily?

  • Actually, I really love Camille and Camilla is very pretty, too. I'd go with that. Just like you, I'd be hesitant to use Emily. Camilla Jane would be really beautiful. Millie Jane & Katie Rose sound like a great sibset.

I'm not a fan of Milena, although it is pretty. I'm not a fan of the Lauren Nichole combo, either.

  • i like Emily. i also like Mila, Lena, and Mia as full names. Milena, for all that I believe you is a legitimate Czech name, looks too much like Miley to me.
  • I really like Emily Jane. I like it the best, it's the most classic. I do not like Lauren Nicole. It sounds dated to me, very 80's. Camilla is OK and I'm not a fan of Milena, although I do know a little girl with this name. I think Emily goes goes best with your DD's name too.
  • I like Camilla (or Camille) Jane the best, followed by Emily Jane. I think Emily Jane sounds just a little better as a sibset with Katie Rose. Either way, they're both beautiful names, and I love the idea of honoring both grandmothers.

Lauren Nicole seems a little dated to me.

  • I still love Lauren Nicole the best

    Emily Jane wouldbe 2nd

Not a fan of Camilla or Milena

  • I like Emily Jane the best.
  • Personally, I'd go with Millie Jane.  I love both names.  My full name is Mandie (similar to Millie as far as being more "casual") and I've never felt like I needed something more formal.  What about Lauren Jane?  I love that, too!

  • I love Emily Jane.  Camilla Jane is beautiful, too.

  • I love Camilla Jane.  Camilla is beautiful and underused IMO.  And you would be honoring your relatives.

Lauren Nicole is pretty but does sound dated.  I actually know several Lauren Nicole, all of whom are in their mid to late 20's.  Plus, Lauren is also very popular right now (at least in my area).

  • Camilla- LOVE, but don't like the nn Milla at all. I do think you could still call her Millie.

Milena- LOVE. I would pronounce it mi-LAY-nah.

If you are looking for the pronunciation of mi-LEE-nah, it would be spelled Melina. If you are looking for the pronunciation of mi-LAH-na, it would be spelled Milana. Any of these could use the nn Millie

I like both of these choices better than Emily, and I think Camilla Jane sounds perfect (though it does somewhat remind me of Calamity Jane).

Milena Jane, when pronounced mi-LAY-nah sounds too rhymey to me.

Have you considered Melania? I really like that one too.

Lauren Nicole sounds like an 80's child to me.

  • I think Camilla is VERY old sounding, ESP paired with Jane.

I sincerely vote for Lauren Nicole!

  • Lauren Nicole. I knew a lot of Emilys in school but only one Lauren. She ended up being our prom queen and is currently going through med school, and is one of the nicest and sweetest girls I've ever met so I have a lot of good feelings associated with that name.
  • I like Milena Jane
  • Lauren Nicole! How often are you going to use her middle name anyways? Emily is just over done for me, I'm over it-there's too many out there!

    My #1 choice though, Mila.
