Cloth Diapering

clicky poll (just for fun)

Hope nobody is offended by this! I've read that families using the "new" CDs are typically middle to upper income.. and that because of the money it takes to build a stash not a lot of low income families can afford the upfront cost.

So of course that made me curious and since we are all CDing families I decided to make this poll and see what the results are.

  • I think more lower-income families would CD if it was easily accessible.  I know that is easy to say, but most CD makers are small businesses that don't have the production capabilities to go nationwide.  On the flip side-- there are so many small CD businesses with unique niches and that makes the CD hunt fun!

  • yes I agree. I kind of wish everyone knew how CDs have evolved.. and all the benefits that come with using them! I feel grateful I sort of stumbled upon them.

  • Coming up with the money to start our stash is a little stressful but certainly do-able.

I am planning on spending about 200 and being able to use them with baby #2 also. So even though we could really use 200 right now, I know it's a good investment.

  • I answered the question as to my household income, but my income alone paid the diapers...I am a teacher and I don't make that much <35k.

  • I didn't go by my household income as SO and I don't share finances and I foot  LO's expenses alone. I make $10.25/hr and work 20 hours on a good week...so...yeah.

  • I spent a total of $180 and had 10 BGs and 12 NB prefolds with 4 NB covers and 36 MED prefolds and 4 MED covers. all bought used and haven't had any issues! I've added to it of course but haven't spent more than $300 total and I'm good until he's PT, I think that is affordable to a wide range of people if they want it.
  • CD's also require a washer/dryer and time.  I can see how having to use a laundromat or coin operated wash/dry would be a deterrent.  Or if you were working 2 jobs to make ends meet.
