I am having a ultrasound tomorrow at 16w4d. What do you think the chances of us being able to find out the gender tomorrow?
We have our anatomy scan scheduled for December 23rd, but of course would be thrilled to find out the gender before that. This not knowing is driving me crazy!!
Re: 16w4d u/s, gender?
I have an elective scan scheduled for Saturday. I will be 16w3d. The sonographer said in the last 15 years she has been right over 16000 times and wrong 4.
Chances are great! We went Friday at 16w 3d & found out very clearly we're having a girl! It does depend on the baby cooperating, but I drank a soda (they said to have juice...) before we went so she was active. I also was nervous we wouldn't be able to tell, but they said the baby is usually fully developed a few weeks before.
Good Luck!
I think your doctor just thinks that people are having their anatomy scans that early, in most of these cases these are elective ultrasounds just to find out the baby's sex. The anatomy scan should not be done before 18 weeks and most places like to wait until week 20. You can tell the baby's sex as early as week 12 if you have the right experience, by week 16 there shouldn't be too many mistakes made if the baby shows the goods.
These are great odds! Lucky you!
I am not having an elective ultrasound, this is an ultrasound to determine the health of baby and check for any potential DS markers. Of course finding out the sex of the baby would be an added perk of this ultrasound, but is not the purpose of the it.
I too am surprised that so many people are finding out so early. We are having our anatomy/gender scan at 19 weeks.
I found out DS was a boy at 16 weeks, 2 days.
This time I don't have my ultrasound until 19 weeks, 3 days but we delayed it because of DH's work schedule.
I am having an elective ultrasound this week and the place I am going only starts doing gender determinations at 16 weeks. The main concern is if the baby is in the right position and that the baby's legs aren't closed too tightly. Otherwise, the goods should be developed enough at that point to make a determination!
I'm glad you asked this! We're going Thursday at 16w1d for an elective u/s. The place we are going won't do it until you're at least 16w, but if they can't tell, you go back for free until they can, so we won't be out financially for starting early.
I was told lots of water the few days beforhand and a glass of fruit juice one hour before.
Our anatomy scan isn't until January 10 and knowing that this place offered it at 16w didn't help my impatience
I found out today at exactly 16w. It wasn't even on a "good" u/s machine, just one of the portable ones! My doctor said sometimes the views are too blurry to tell on those, but he was able to tell right away.
Be prepared though, they probably won't do an extra u/s if your insurance doesn't cover it (or you can pay out of pocket).
I agree with the second post. My OB here scheduled a level II and anatomy scan combo for 18wks, but my new midwife where I'm moving wanted to reschedule it to for 22 weeks. Long story short it has to stay at 18wks (but I can't complain b/c I just want to see that the baby is ok) but I think closer to 20/21/22 weeks the better.
