Help with "thank you's" for 1st bday

Ok when you sent out the 1st bday thank you cards... did you write it as if it was coming from your LO.

Or did you write it coming from you and just sign your name with LO's name?

Any examples would be great! thanks

Re: Help with "thank you's" for 1st bday

  • I wrote them from DD. Ex: " thank you for coming to my birthday party, I had so much fun playing with you! Thanks for the great puzzle too, they are my favorite!!"

  • I never personally understood why you would send out thank you's from a birthday party...

That being said, it would probably look cute if it were written from you LO.

Blessed with a beautiful, healthy baby girl on 11/22/2009.
The wait, though heartbreaking, was well worth it.

really? someone took the time to spend their time and money to shop for a gift, and come to a party... Why would you not send a thank you? maybe I'm alone on this one... I would kind of be offended if I didnt get a thank you?

Not alone.  I would not go through the effort for that person again.

  • I wrote the physical thank you note from Jackson.  The printed photo thank you said "Thank you so much for celebrating my first birthday with me.  Wishing you the happiest of holidays and a healthy new year.  Love, Jackson"

The only time I have ever sent or received thank you notes/cards has been for weddings and showers (baby and bridal).

Do you send out thank you cards after Christmas (if you celebrate it)? If you are hosting a dinner party and someone brings you a bottle of wine for the party, do you send them a thank you card?

I wasn't trying to start anything, I've just never understood it.  Did your parents have you send out thank you's when you were little?

  • I wouldn't send them because it seems like a fair trade off.  You spend time shopping for a gift and celebrating with us, and not only do you get a great meal and some good company for a couple of hours, I will also be at your kid's (or whomever's party) with a gift and ready to celebrate.

I always send birthday thank yous. Always. The party is not a quid pro quo, you're not throwing the party to get gifts. You're throwing the party to celebrate and because you want other people to celebrate with you. They give of their time by attending and their money by buying gifts. You thank them by trying to make them comfortable and by sending a thank you. Exception for Christmas because that is a gift exchange holiday, usually you give to and get from the same person.

To answer the original question, I wrote DD's from me. I'd say something like: "Thank you so much for taking the time to come to DD's first birthday. We loved seeing you and appreciate your travelling all this way [or taking time out of your busy weekend or whatever]. Thank you also for the wonderful xxx, DD plays with it/reads it/looks adorable in it. ".
