It's on our list. It's still easy to say, spell and a definite boy's name while being less common than others on our list.
Full name would probably be Marshall David.
Does it make it better if I say it has a strong personal significance? (not a family name, but still a strong connection. It reveals too much personal info for me to get into on the Bump.)
Good? Bad? Otherwise?
Be honest. I won't get worked up either way.

My 13 year old cousin is named Marshall. While I could never picture myself using the name, I do like it. We call him Marshie or Marsh-man.
Having strong connections/reasons for the name is always a plus too!
GL.
The only Marshall I know IRL is a huge mountain of a man, gangster rapper. I love the name and have only positive connotations with it because I like the guy.
ETA: I also call him Marshmellow because it's very un-gangster and I find it hilarious.

There is a character on "How I Met Your Mother" named Marshall. He and his wife, Lily, are adorable together! They call each other "Marshmallow" and "Lily Pad".
Other than that, I won't say how I feel about the name, since it's only because of a horrible personal association (not related to "How I Met Your Mother").
I will say that if I can dislike a name b/c of a bad personal association, then you can certainly like a name because of a good one! (As long as it's a real name, spelled correctly.)
I like the name and I like the MN David with it. I like that it's not on everyone's top 10 list and that it has personal significance to you....that can be hard to find in and of itself. Good luck!
