Baby Names

WDYT think of Marshall?

It's on our list. It's still easy to say, spell and a definite boy's name while being less common than others on our list.

Full name would probably be Marshall David.

Does it make it better if I say it has a strong personal significance? (not a family name, but still a strong connection. It reveals too much personal info for me to get into on the Bump.)

Good? Bad? Otherwise?

Be honest. I won't get worked up either way.

  • My 13 year old cousin is named Marshall. While I could never picture myself using the name, I do like it. We call him Marshie or Marsh-man.

Having strong connections/reasons for the name is always a plus too! :)

  • Yes My nephew's name is Marshall. Very cute.

  • The only Marshall I know IRL is a huge mountain of a man, gangster rapper. I love the name and have only positive connotations with it because I like the guy.

ETA: I also call him Marshmellow because it's very un-gangster and I find it hilarious.

  • my DS and DH have Marshall as their middle name...it was my MIL maiden name. So I'm definitely a fan! Congrats by the way, I followed your blog with Hope.

  • I teach an after school program at the elementary school and just got a student this week named Marshall. I've never met a Marshall and really liked it when I heard it! It doesn't go well with our last name but I think it's cute. Marshall David flows really well too.

    Aww thanks!

  • It was on our list when we were PG with DS.  I would consider it again if we ever had another DS.
  • I love the name Marshall. Too bad DH is against it.
  • I don't like it. It reminds me of Eminem or a really old man.

  • There is a character on "How I Met Your Mother" named Marshall. He and his wife, Lily, are adorable together! They call each other "Marshmallow" and "Lily Pad".

Other than that, I won't say how I feel about the name, since it's only because of a horrible personal association (not related to "How I Met Your Mother").

I will say that if I can dislike a name b/c of a bad personal association, then you can certainly like a name because of a good one! (As long as it's a real name, spelled correctly.)

  • I think it sounds dorky.  It also reminds me of Marshall Mathers (rapper Eminem).
  • I love this name.  My youngest cousin is named Marshall.  His full name is Marshall Riley Prescott lastname (both mns are family names) and he ALWAYS gets complimented on his name.  One of my favorites!

  • I don't like it. It reminds me of the discount clothing store, Marshalls.
  • I like the name and I like the MN David with it.  I like that it's not on everyone's top 10 list and that it has personal significance to you....that can be hard to find in and of itself.  Good luck!
