Toddlers: 12 - 24 Months

Anyone not walking

I know I shouldn't worry...I have told myself not to worry.  She crawled and sat up late and just all the sudden one day started doing it all at once, but she STILL ISN'T WALKING!  She turned 15mths yesterday.

Mind you she walks with toys a ton, walks holding onto stuff, stands unassisted for short chunks of time, but no walking.

Anyone else?

Re: Anyone not walking

  • DD is 17 months and just starting to take unsupported steps.  We get PT through EI, and have been since she was 13 months.  I suggest looking into it if you have any concerns, but it sounds like she's close to walking.

  • Alex started walking right before he hit 16m. He had also hit all his other milestones on the later side of the normal range.

Thanks.  Our pedi actually sent us to PT for a consultation before she was getting back to a sit and crawling.  The therapist said there was nothing to worry about and 3 days later was when she did everything.  Charlotte does this...just when I am to my limit with worry, she does the new thing.

She is great with fine motor things, babbles a ton and comprehends so much.  She is just such a gross motor lazy daisy...  :)

  • DS didn't walk until he was 16.5 months. Just give her time, she will get there.

  • We are at the same place as you.  He will walk from DH to me if we persuade him - maybe 5 feet and super shaky.  He's getting really heavy to carry around.

  • DS didn't walk until 16 months. If she is cruising, bears weight on both legs, standing up from sitting and vice versa, she is fine. My son was just a little bit of a chicken when it came to those independent steps Wink
  • My guy doesn't walk. He does pretty much everything you listed except for standing on his own. He has a few times, but that's it. My doc said we will wait until 18 months to see if he has started yet and, if not, then we will look more into it.

  • We didn't crawl till 12 months or walk till 17 months.  Now he runs everywhere.  We have been in physical therapy since he was 12 months though.  I wouldn't worry so much.  I worried myself to sick and now like I mentioned he is running, climbing, jumping everywhere.  If you are concerned I would talk to your pedi but average age to walk is anywhere from 12 months to 18 months!

  • DD was a little over 15 months before she started walking.  I wouldn't worry too much.
