Decided to stay in our apartment...

We pay a pretty low rate for our 2-bedroom apartment, but were thinking about moving into one of my parent's rental houses so we could have a yard, a garage, a third bedroom, and not have to live on the 3rd floor anymore!

Decided after a long talk that spending one more year here and saving $5,000 on rent over the year was a better idea. Then we would be ready to move when the LO is about 9 mo old into a bigger place.

I am happy with this decision I think. Bummed, but it makes more sense financially. Then I can stay home for the summer like I planned and enjoy my baby and not worry about rent :)

  • we are also staying in our apartment. Actually, we bought it just a few weeks ago. We have two bedrooms and we are on the 3rd floor as well, but the cost (its a buyers market!) and saving exchange (let alone the awesome interest rate right now) was just too good to pass up for the first few years. Later we can rent it out or sell it.

These are the years when we can built a strong financial foundation - good on ya for making a wise choise for your family.

  • Sounds like a good call. Having the extra time with baby will be worth a little space crunch.

We briefly considered looking for a bigger place as well, but decided we were going to have enough added expenses with this baby coming without an unnecessary rent increase on top of it. We'll re-evaluate in a year or so. We will definitely outgrow this place, but until the baby is running around crazy, we'll be just fine.

  • I think that's a great idea! You won't really need use of a yard for the next year, it's not like you can send your 2 month old outside to play! :) And think how nice the savings will be, plus you wont have to move twice!

  • that really is a great idea expecially since you have the room needed.

  • We are in a 2 BR condo and also toyed with the idea trying to sell our condo and move into a 3 or 4 BR home before baby arrives and likewise decided against it!  Our mortgage is so cheap and if we can deal with the condo for at least the first year and a half of of the baby's life we save more and buy a much nicer house when we do move.  Might be tight and stinks not having a guest room, but I'm also thinking not having a guest room might be nice when pushy IL's want to visit! ;-)  haha
