Twins???

I oringinally posted this in July 2011 birth month, but I thought I would post here too. Considering maybe more mothers with twins will read it.

My husband and I have twins in both sides of our families, I had to go to the ER @ 5 weeks, however during the ultrasound no baby was detected. The nurses said my HCG levesl were high for how far along I was, and also stated that an embryo should be seen. We mentioned about the twins and they agreed that it could be a possibility. On the follow up appt 2 days later my levels doubled but only one yolk sac was visible. Is it still possible for twins?

I forgot to ask because this is my first pregnancy and I was relieved it wasn't eutopic.

twins on your husband's side have no effect on your chances... and your family having an effect is only really if they are fraternal (if they are identical it doesn't matter).

if you had an US at 5 weeks a twin is quite visible for most pregnancies. it's not impossible for one to hide- but if you were having problems they should have been looking pretty good- so chances are there is not a twin.

Be happy- you are pregnant!  Having a twin pregnancy = a huge set of risks that nobody would wish upon another mom.
