Baby Names

Post your facebook, hospital & other name horrors here

Per this thread, we're hoping to condense a lot of the "gawker" threads into one! We thought this would make them more fun to browse and the board an easier read. We'll start a new thread every day to keep the list fresh.

Anyone is welcome to add to the post--local hospital names, the awful name you over heard at the park, Facebook horrors, and anything else that might give us a good chuckle! Feel free to comment, too!

  • Some of these certainly aren't the most horrendous names I've ever heard, but here are some from the local hospital - Alix (I like the name Alex, just not spelled like this), Justice, Eias, Casen, Kanen, Richelle (horrible spelling of Rachel), Izel, Alivia (LOVE Olivia, but not with an A), Breeley, Campbell, Blossom, Kayeb, Kohler, Kavita and Miller.

Blossom is a nice enough name, I suppose. But I wouldn't  be able to get over that particular pop culture reference. Would you?

PS: I've begun to see Justice popping up everywhere (I do not like it at all). I wonder if it has anything to do with that store for tweens and young girls with the same name. "Justice- just for girls" Yes, it's a cute store... but it's also a surname!!! I just don't get it.

That's exactly how I feel. I suppose Blossom isn't a horrible name, but I automatically think of the TV show Blossom.

My taste in names is VERY traditional, so, while there are names that I think are really out there, others might really like them.

Alix at least is a fairly old variant--it's the German version of Alice, and was actually the name of the wife of Nicholas Romanov, before she married into the Russian royal family.  It's rare(at least over here), but neither made-up, new, nor kr8tiv.

Again, my taste in names is VERY traditional, so some names that I post here may not be as out there to others as they seem to me.

This isn't a spelling of Rachel, it's the name Richelle, like Michelle only with an R.  It's a legitimate name and been around for at least a few years as my best friend (almost 30) has it as a middle name.
