Keeping track of babies..(last question today :))

Did you use braclets, colors or anything else to tell which baby was which, or will I just know?

Maybe a stupid question, (again!!).

But we have all seen Full House when they mix up Nicky & Alex... LOL.

Did you have a system or method when they were newborns?

  • Mine are fraternal (obviously ;)) and looked different from the beginning (even though the first 6-8 months we were always hearing, "How do you tell them apart?!"). I've heard many ID moms say they left their hospital bracelets on until they could reliably tell them apart, or put a drop of nail polish on one baby's toenail. In many cases even with IDs you can tell them apart by the time you leave the hospital (size difference, face is shaped a bit differently from conditions in utero, etc.)

  • I have b/g twins so I can just check a diaper if needed, lol. I know DH's cousins are ID and his aunt used nail polish on one toe of the boys. But while my IL's were watching the cousins, the nail polish came off so they guessed as to who was who and to this day my DH isn't sure if they are still mixed up. If you are worried about it, maybe a certain color for one, blue for one, green for the other?

  • I was worried about this exact thing since I was having ID twins, but we have had no problems. I actually think they look totally different most of the time. There are times that I mix them up if I just glance, but really this hasn't been an issue.

  • we had trouble telling our IDs apart when we had just brought them home (its simple for us now, but everyone else still has trouble).  we kept their hospital bracelets on for awhile and painted their toenails.  when we werent sure if we'd be able to tell them apart in pictures (which I am able to do >98% of the time now)  we'd always made sure alexis was always on the left for early photos.   actually, we kept her on the left side of their shared PNP so you'd KNOW who you picked up in the middle of the night
