ladies who color their hair...

i have heard that it is safe during pregnancy but i am still somewhat nervous about it. i usually get foils so the color isn't really sitting directly on my scalp. are you still coloring your hair?

This, my doc said to wait until after 1st tri.

  • My paperwork from my OB says coloring and highlighting is OK during pregnancy.

  • I just got my highlights done this week (foil, not on scalp). my OB said it's fine, I did wait til week 13 to do it, but she was okay even before. SO glad I went.
m/c#1 07/16/08 (11 weeks), m/c#2 10/10/08 (8 weeks). and then nothing since except every test possible (no answers). IUI#1 and #2: BFNs Super lucky to be buddies with Peetie. Our out of nowhere, surprise DD born 5/29/2011
  • My doc OK'd it after 1st tri, so I will get my highlights redone then.

  • I had my hair highlighted and lowlighted around 5 or 6 weeks.  My doctor said it was fine.  She said coloring was safe at any point in pregnancy as long as you're not letting dye soak on your scalp.

I'm getting it done again in January and will probably have it touched up again in May. I'm not worried.

  • I coloured my hair throughout my entire first pregnancy and I'm doing it again this one. I had it coloured when I was 5 weeks (foils and on scalp) and I'm due to go again in a couple of weeks... I never had any problems with it.

  • My doc said 12 weeks (got mine done the week before Thanksgiving), but I've also read from several sources that it's ok throughout.   I get foils, as well.

  • I've had my hair high and low lighted. Foils are a great way to go, no direct color sitting on your scalp!

  • Mine said it was fine but I won't need mine done until February or so.

  • If you are just doing color, you could try a "glaze". It's what I've been doing for awhile. It covers my grays and doesn't give a "line" when it grows out. I love it! And, without the harsh chemicals.

  • I was nervous but I needed it done so badly.  I had it done at 6 weeks with organic vegetable dye.  I don't know if that makes a difference but it made me feel better!

  • I'm a hairdresser so I'm almost constantly chainging haircolor lol.

Before I got pregnant I went fron brunette to blond and a 2 weeks ago I dyed it red and on Friday I dyed it a little darker red. I am not worried at all. I don't think that the color is on the scalp long enough for it to go out into the blood. And I think that these advices about coloring came whent there were alot mora and more dangerous chemicals in the color.

But it's ok to be careful, it's better to not do it if your worried.

But I think it's worse to be working with the stuff everyday than having it on your head 30 min every other month :S

I will let you know if I have any problems with my pregnancy and/or baby :)

  • I haven't yet but I'll probably get my highlights/low-lights done in January.  I think as long as you're not letting dye soak into your scalp its fine!
