Babies: 0 - 3 Months

A bunch of questions. HELP!

MY DD has shown intolerances to milk since she was just a week old. I am currently breast feeding as well as supplementing with formula because she is ALWAYS hungry. I really have to watch my dairy intake. I notice a difference in her right away if I eat a lot of cheese or other dairy. On top of having gas issues she vomits a lot. I haven't noticed any blood in her stool but it does have a greenish color to it. I made the switch to Similac soy formula from Similac Advanced when she started to get VERY gassy and fussy. I noticed a difference in her right away! But, whenever you Google or do a search on soy formulas, you read so many crazy things. As a baby I was also on Soy because I was allergic to milk. I turned out fine but everything I have read is making me nervous. She?s doing very well on the soy formula so I would hate to ruin a good thing by changing. I'm going back to work in a month and I'm going to try to continue breast feeding but I'm not sure my work schedule will allow for me to pump enough. So, that means I'll have to give her more formula. Has anyone else used soy formula? Any issues?

Abigail is 2 months old as of yesterday. I?m wondering how much your LO?s eating at this age. She seems to be hungry all the time! She was 10lbs at birth and about 14lbs (give or take) now.

Also, has anyone heard of giving a 2 month old rice cereal? I?ve been doing some reading online and have talked to a few old school people but you hear so many different opinions. UGGH!

Last question, promise. When did you transition your LO into their crib to sleep the night? She currently sleeps in her bassinet in our bedroom, and I kinda like being able to hear her all night long, but I know it?s getting close to that time.

Thanks in advance!

So, that means I'll have to give her more formula. Has anyone else used soy formula? Any issues? I've read both good and bad...I would ask your pediatrician on what he/she thinks about it and what is best for your daughter....HTH.

My 2 month old is eating around 25 oz a day but that's for her weight...the guideline is 2.5 times your DD's weight...so she would need 35 oz a day.

Also, has anyone heard of giving a 2 month old rice cereal? I?ve been doing some reading online and have talked to a few old school people but you hear so many different opinions. UGGH!  My pedi said that she didn't need cereal until she was around 4-6 months old and that babies can not even digest it until at least 3 months old, so no cereal for us yet.

    Thanks in advance!

  • I hope this eases your mind but my two year old had a milk intolerance untill she was one and a half. She drank Prosobe and is just fine after I switched her she did not spit up any more and her reflux calmed remarkably. So as for the soy I think your LO will be ok.

On top of having gas issues she vomits a lot.  Why don't you cut dairy out of your diet so that she doesn't have those issues with your BM? If BFing is important to you, as well as her comfort/health, it would be a small thing to do for a short amount of time while you're providing her with BM...it is tough, but women have done it.  I haven't noticed any blood in her stool but it does have a greenish color to it. Any issues?  As J+MS said, check with the pediatrician - they really just suggest that you use the soy-based formulas under a doctor's care.  Soy doesn't have the same nutrient balances that cow's milk-based formula has.

ONLY under a doctor's orders would I give my 2 month old cereal in his milk.  It's too hard for them to digest it.

Only you can decide what's right for your family in terms of when to move LO into the crib out of your room.  Do it when both of you are ready to do it.

    Thanks in advance!

  • I have cut dairy out of my diet as much as possible. I also need to supplement because of the amount of milk I produce, therefore, I need to give her formula.
