I see many different recipes and some do while others only have fruit & sugar.

It depends on if I'm making it to can in big batches or just making a little bit to refrigerate and use.  If a big batch, yes, I use pectin to make really sure that it sets.  If a small batch that I'm just going to refrigerate no, I don't use pectin.
