Babies: 0 - 3 Months

Are all 10 week olds STTN except mine?

I feel like everyone post I see about STTN most children by 10 weeks are STTN.  Mine is not. He actually wakes every 2 to 2.5 hours to eat still.  Am I doing something wrong?  I have not put him on a schedule.  He will not take additional formula before his bed time other than the 3 oz he normally does during the day?

 Any advice?

Am I alone here?

  • You're not alone.  My DS didn't STTN until he was 14months old (he woke once at 1am from 11months till 14months).  Before 11 months, he would wake a couple times.  I don't remember all the details, but when he was 10wks, I'm sure he was still waking every 3hrs.  I think the people who have 10wk old who do STTN are the abnormal ones, they just AW about it so we hear about it :)

Ditto...also, what is their/your definition of STTN with a 10 week old???
  • Um, no. My daughter is over 3 months old and still doesn't STTN. She is waking up every 2-3 hours to nurse. There is no magic trick - they will STTN when they are ready.

  • Last night was a fluke I am sure but DD slept 7 hrs on her 10 wk birthday.  The night before she was up every 3-4 hrs which is her norm!

  • the bigger the baby, usually they will STTN earlier.  At least that is what my pedi said.

my son did around 12 weeks.  He was about 16 lbs at the time.  They told me the magic number was 15lbs.

Can you try and get the baby to cluster feed in the evening.  The last 3 hours before bed.  That may get an extra ounce or 2 into him and sleep a little longer, maybe 4-6 hours instead.

  • DD doesn't. Last few nights she has been on a four hour stretch which is nice but, usually its two to three hours.
  • Mine is not STTN yet.  Sometimes he will sleep 4 hours but more along the lines of 2-3 hours.

  • Mine are only 8 weeks but I don't forsee them STTN by 10 weeks. They're up every 3-3.5 hours eating right now. Sometimes we get a 4-4.5 hour stretch out if them but it's not consistent. I'll take what I can get right now and eventually they'll STTN. I'm not going to force it. Both are over the 12lb mark, eating and growing well.

  • All these posts are making me feel better! My 10 week old still wakes up every 3-4 hours, every 2 on bad nights. I felt like I was the only one too.

  • We found that skipping his early evening nap -- which has really been his choice, not ours -- and giving him a bath every single night has helped in getting DS to sleep longer.

He doesn't literally STTN, but he goes down at 8-8:30 and gets up once for a feeding around 3 am and then is up between 6:30-7 for the day

  • DD is a big baby (she was something like 13 1/2 pounds at her 8 week appt), and she's not STTN at 11 weeks. She's a heifer, eats ridiculous amounts, and still doesn't sleep for that long. The best we've had is 3 wake-ups a night. Lately though she sleeps 5 hours or so when she first goes down, and then gets up every. single. hour. after her first feeding. So I am up pretty much every hour or so after midnight. It's brutal, and it doesn't change whether I feed her a ton during the day/evening, keep her awake as much as possible, etc. She actually doesn't sleep a ton during the day either. I never thought I'd be so functional on so little sleep.
