Stomach Flu

So the stomach flu is going around my office right now and I'm scared to death I'm next. My head's hurting and my throat is achy and that's how one of my coworkers started out. I'm only 8 weeks pregnant and have had 0 morning sickness, which is great because I have abnormal issues with vomiting. (looong story) I'm also scared to death that getting the flu will hurt the baby. Has anyone gone thru this this year (I've heard it's the big illness) and if so, any suggestions for getting through it? I'm honestly terrified...

Re: Stomach Flu

  • I just went through it the day that i got my BFP - i was terrified as well, figuring that i would absolutely lose my baby. I called my doctor, who said that it had been going around, that plenty of pregnant women had had it and that i should not worry as long as i remained well hydrated. As she pointed out, the common things that women are exposed to (flu, winter colds, etc...) are usually the things that don't affect your baby and that women are most resilient to. I hope that helps! If you do get sick, remember to drink down some gatorade to replace all the electrolytes and sugar that you're losing. I would water it down half and half and managed to keep it down and keep myself reasonably well hydrated.

If you're worried, though, call your doctor - they can help you through it. Good luck!!!!

  • Thank you for responding! I feel much better that if I end up with it, the baby should be a-ok! I'm glad you're feeling better too! I'll keep my fingers crossed that this ends up being a worried for nothing situation!
