Glider vs. Recliner

I am a first-time parent (six months pregnant) and I just started a registry.  I would like to get a glider or a recliner for the nursery, but I am not sure which to put on my registry.  Any suggestions?

Re: Glider vs. Recliner

  • I love my glider for nursing and rocking, but really need the angle of a recliner for napping.

  • I like gliders/rockers better, I cant lean back and nurse, so I'd rarely have the foot thing out.

The moment a child is born, the mother is also born. She never existed before. The woman existed, but the mother, never. A mother is something absolutely new.
  • I prefer the glider... kinda hard to get up out of a recliner with LO and the noise of raising/lowering the foot rest startles him.

  • I have one that's both and I love it, but if I had to pick I'd say glider.

  • Rocker Recliner. You def. need the rocker, and there will be some nights where the only sleeping option is to kick back in the recliner. I say be over prepared.

  • I got a glider/recliner by Best Chairs. It is squishy and comfy and awesome, but cost a pretty penny. I never planned to spend that much, but when I sat in it I was SOLD. LOVE it! They do take 12 weeks to come in, though, so plan ahead when registering for that kind of thing or you might not get it in time.

Heck, I might not get mine in time at this rate...

  • lurking but i have both (rocker/recliner in the nursery, and a glider w/ ottoman in the living room)

Recliner:  Pros: nice to lean back, takes up less room (no footrest) we have one that has fabric that covers from the chair to the footrest when reclined, so little fingers dont get pinched and easier to pick up dropped blankets/paci. Soft arm rests  Cons: harder to get up out of when reclined with a sleeping baby in your arms.

Glider (an ottoman is a must!) : Pros: when i'just need to rock baby: i love to rock with my feet up, and i like to rock sitting up a little more. Easier to get up with sleeping baby  CONS:: mine doesnt have padded arm rests so i have to use a pillow or after a while my arms hurt, dropped items fall through the arm rest gaps and off my lap, finger pinch problem (really a problem when LO starts moving/crawling and wants to play with the ottoman), Mine is a little narrow for nursing a older baby and his feet get stuck in the arm rest holes when he squirms and kicks.
