Starting today we have stopped giving Lyla bottles and switched to milk. She's not really a picky eater so I'm sure the transition shouldn't be too hard. My question is I need some snack ideas. I know she will get hungry in between her 3 main meals. I'm just wondering what snacks you guys give? Also, do you give them a sippy of milk right before bed? or just at dinner? TIA!
Re: Transitioning to no bottles?
When I transitioned my DS from bottles to whole milk and sippies, we did milk with all three meals and watered down juice or water with snacks in between. Snacks were fruit, crackers, basically anything that wasn't too hard because he didn't have that many teeth then.
I started by getting rid of the late morning and afternoon bottle and replacing them with snacks. When he was used to that then I took away the morning bottle and just fed him breakfast right when he woke up. When that was working then I moved dinner back to right before bedtime and took away the before bed bottle. The whole process took about 2-3 weeks.
When we transitioned to sippies DD we went with milk at meals and water in between meals. Our pedi suggested not letting her have anything to drink after dinner as it would eventually make night potty training easier.
In between meals DD is generally pretty good- I make sure to offer her water before food because sometimes children (and adults) think they're hungry when they're really thirsty. She does like Cheerios, bananas, bits of bagel or an applesauce between meals.
