Toddlers: 12 - 24 Months

Daily routine

What types of things do you do with LO in your daily routine? Even if your not a SAHM what do you do when your playing? Have you introduced colors, letters, and numbers yet? I always repeat things like Blue when she is playing with a blue ball or C is for car when she is playing with a car, but other then that im not sure what else I should be doing with her at 12 months although I feel like what im doing right now isn't enough.

Re: Daily routine

  • I just talk to him.  Our pediatrician said the best thing we can do with him is simply talk & talk a lot.

I am working on body parts - right now we're doing "nose."  I'll pat his nose & say "Nose!"  & repeat several times.  Then I'll say, "Harrison, where's your nose?"  & tap his nose or "Harrison, where's Momma's nose?" & tap my nose.

He doesn't tap his own nose yet, but I figure he'll get it eventually.

  • I talk to her and tell her what I'm doing. I also bought these great touch 'n feel flashcards & books and they are mostly of animals. We play with those and I will ask her what does the horse or dog say, etc? She has learned the horse sound, dog sound and she makes a fishy face for the fish. When we are around the house or out and she sees a picture of any of these animals she points and makes the noise. Its so cute. She is also starting to learn where her nose is from another book I read her. She is very into books right now.
  • Just talk to your LO - alot!  Narrate what you are doing and add details - like "Let's go get the celery from the refrigerator"  "Open the door first, then we open the drawer"  - Hey!  There it was - hiding in teh drawer!  Now Mommy's going to cut it up so we can use it in our dinner.  Hey look - its green and tall - look at that!  Yummmy celery and now I'm chopping it with the knife"

You don't have to do this every time w/ every thing - if your LO is happy playing on the floor w/ the tupperware or wooden spoons - just let it go.  But, when you can, fit this stuff in.  I do it so much now, I barely think about it!

Also - books, different sized toys, talk about what you see out in the world, etc.
