I need an idea for a baby gift. The parents would not be into cute outfits, or really anything "cute." They would more likely appreciate something innovative, helpful or practical. I'm thinking perhaps a bumbo. Any other ideas? High tech would be appreciated but not necessary. They would defintely give bonus points for anything clever.
Re: Your favorite "non-traditional" baby gadget
I love my smart mom teether. Looks like a necklace, but the baby can chew on it.
Buzzy is fun too.

We also love our sound machines. Both boys have them and I can't imagine never having used them b/c it cuts out so much background noise. We just have two of these inexpensive ones from Walmart. We have had the oldest one for 4 years now and it still works great.

The parents are both male so not sure if either would wear this. Athough, they are Australian nationals and that doesn't look too far off from some of the jewelry I've seen them wear. Maybe it would work with a more masculine chain or even a leather thong.
What is this?

I really like this idea, it sounds right up their alley. Pun intended.
This looks right up their alley, too, and is now on my short list. I just need to make sure they're not using any iPhone apps for this.

A Baby Bjorn plastic step stool is also priceless -- it doesn't slip and we use it all the time.
wow, this is pretty cool, too. I might need one of those for DS.
Is this what people refer to as the "baby crack machine?" Who makes the one you have?
My most useful gift that I hadn't registered for was a

We used it for both kids for a long time. It was skinny enough to fit in the diaper bag and I could clean it easily too.

I found my Learning Tower second hand -- it's just so nice bc DS will help me do dishes (ha!), cook, etc. I really love it.
What a fantastic gift that I've never thought of giving. I might steal this idea.

I have been told by more than one person that it was the single most useful gift they got at their baby showers. Not cute, but it doesn't get outgrown, and who doesn't have spots on the rugs or furniture because of the kids?
