Toddlers: 12 - 24 Months

Has anyone's LO given up nap completely???

Just curious...

DD is refusing to nap in her crib; though if we go for a drive or a ride in the stroller, she'll go to sleep.  Yesterday she took 2 cat naps (one in the car, the other in the stroller) and in total got 40 mins of sleep.  She went to bed early --6pm--but went to bed peacefully without crying and then STTN until 6:30am.

I'm hoping she is just going thru a phase and will start napping again in her crib.  But I can't force her to sleep.  Did anyone else's LO give up their naps completely and how is it going?

  • Thank God Noah still naps twice a day!

  • EEEK!  I would cry if LO gave up naps.

It really sounds like she still needs the naps (since she is nodding off in the car and stroller) but is just refusing the crib.  I have had times where DS went through a bad napping phase and sometimes I needed to tweak the times I was putting him down, but sometimes he was just being a poo.  I just continued to put him down and leave him in his crib and stick with the routine.  If he still didn't nap after 40 minutes, I would take him for a drive so that he got that nap in, but I always did the crib first.

  • DD starting giving up her nap right around your LOs age.  It was hell and we tried everything to get her to nap.  She's in a toddler bed and even though we knew she was tired she would stay up and play with her toys.  Eventually we removed all the toys and she still stayed up.  Our pedi said it probably wasn't a phase- she was probably going to be giving up her nap completely although it was way too early for that.  Well after a few months of it she started napping again!!  We just kept putting her in there each day and finally she started to nap regularly again.  There is hope!!

Thanks for the encouragement!  I'm still putting her down, just kinda playing around with the schedule a bit.  I think Thanksgiving got her all screwed up.  she took a really late nap that day and it was at my parents' house.  Then we had company for three days and she napped poorly.  She goes back to DC tomorrow--I think she naps better there because there is more stimulation and she tires more easily.  Crossing fingers she gets back on track soon!

  • We played around with DD's scheudle a little bit, putting her down later then earlier.  We used to put her down around 1 but our pedi suggested putting her down at 12:30 directly after lunch so she doesn't have time to get stimulated by all of her toys etc again.  After lunch I take her straight from her highchair and change her diaper and put her right down.  Eventually she started to nap again but it took a looonng time!
