Anyone rekindle with a long-lost friend?

A woman I used to be very close with contacted me on Facebook.  We were like sisters about 18 years ago, but had a falling out and drifted apart.  I'm excited to hear from her, but nervous to return her phone call.  I'm not sure why because it felt like old times in the few exchanges we had on FB. Last I spoke to her, she was an immature 23 year old.  Now she's about to turn 40.  Totally different places in life.

Anyone ever reunite after a really long time with a friend you ended things badly?

Re: Anyone rekindle with a long-lost friend?

  • Wow...18 years is a long time! I re-kindled a friendship after about 5 years, and it was a friendship that ended badly. We both never spoke of the reasons we had drifted but in my heart I feel as though we both know what the reasons were. She got pregnant very young and her bf was abusive. He talked down to her all the time and was just not a nice person. I tried to help her and be a good friend but he finally pushed it too far and basically forced her to cut everyone out of her life...she finally left him and is raising their son on her own, working 3 jobs and going to school because he has no job and pays her no child support. I say go for it...life is too short and if you were good friends back then, chances are she has grown up and matured and you can be good friends again. Forgive what happened in the past and move forward...chances are you have both missed each other a lot over the years!

  • Just a few weeks ago in fact, thanks to The Bump and this board. A very close friend from college found me on here, thanks to our family picture in my siggy and we have been communicating via FB for a week or so. I always felt bad that we lost touch when we both transferred out of college to other places. It is soooo cool to see that we both have families now and living our "Happily ever afters" that we always wanted.
  • I met up with an old hs friend through another close friend (we were all friends back in hs) for a playdate this summer...we just kind of drifted apart after heading off to college but it was great to see her after almost 15 years and we are getting together again next week...I say go for it!
