Im hoping for a year or a little more. Ethan self-weaned at 8 months and it was really emotionally hard on me, I wasn't ready and he wasn't either (in the physical still needs milk type way) but at least I didnt have to wean him off of something he really still enjoyed. I'd like Lance to wean himself as well, that would be optimal, just hopefully closer to a year this time.
The moment a child is born,
the mother is also born.
She never existed before.
The woman existed, but the mother, never.
A mother is something absolutely new.
Apparently I'm the odd one out on this one - I don't plan to BF for 1 year. I'll be happy if I make it to 4 months when we start solids. Right now my goal is to make it to the new year.

Oh your baby is only worth 4 months?
That seems unnecessarily harsh.
I EP and manage to get enough for LO to get BM for about half his feedings. I hope to provide at least some BM until 6 months (through flu season)

Well why the heck would you set your sights so low for your child? If they say using a car seat for 3 years is best, will you just "hope" to make it to 2 years? Ridiculous.

Do you know her?
Maybe she has supply issues. Or she's suffering from PPD and breastfeeding is driving her deeper into it. Maybe baby has a health problem. Maybe her lifestyle just doesn't suit being solely responsible for her child's nutrition.
I have to supplement because of supply issues but I plan to give him what I can for at least 6 months, maybe a year, depending on how my supply holds out.
I'm setting small goals for myself. First I just wanted to make it 6 weeks, which was easier said then done since DS wound up in the PICU at 3 days, but we did now I'm shooting for 6 months and we'll be halfway there next week. After that it'll be 9 months. Ideally I'd love to make it a year but I'm happy for every day we're successful.

You are seriously rude... maybe she set her goal for 4 months and if she makes it 4 months she will continue on breast feeding. Who are you to judge...you have no idea what the situation is! Geez...
both of my other two weaned themselves at 16 months right after they got all their molars. I felt like it helped them be able to nurse through the teething pain. I'm thinking I might want to go a little longer this time, like 18 months if she'll go for it, since she might be my last baby.

At least a year. I BF DS for 14 months when my supply ran out. I had quit pumping at work at 11 months. I was surprised it took 3 more months for my daytime supply to run out after that (I work nights)!
I'll be happy when I get to 3 months...& then we'll see how it goes with work. I don't think I'm going to be able to pump regularly at work & I'm afraid my supply is going to go down.
Me: 42, DH: 43.
We are so grateful to have a 2yr old daughter, conceived naturally after 3 miscarriages & no treatments (our Dr. gave us 1 more month to try on our own before advacing to IVF, & we conceived her naturally in January 2010)!
Trying since April 2011 without sucess....MD said we were both "fine" & that if it wasn't happening, it was a chromosomal issue.
Finally started Follistim 225mcg injections with an Ovidrel trigger November 2012. Bleeding 11 days post Ovidrel on November 25th.
Starting the whole lab/Ultrasound/Follistim cycle again on November 27th...

Car seats are not nearly the same.
I'm just hoping on making it to 6 months... I may have to become an EPer though... he's getting frustrated with my slow flow!!
What's BLW??
Hey you are giving it a shot, babe!
Baby-led weaning.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Baby-led_weaningWe'll see...I'll bf as long as I can without it getting (hate to say it) weird. No bf-ing a 3 yr old for me!
I don't want him to be able to reminisce about sucking on my boobs when he's older. lol
I'll love you forever,
I'll like you for always,
As long as I'm living my baby you'll be.

At least two years, though I will start to wean when he gets to two. DS1 nursed until just shy of 2.5.
I really liked nursing a toddler, it was nice when he was starting to eat, bc I didn't worry about him getting enough since he was also nursing.
