...and my house is shaking. It scares the crap out of me the first time it happens each time. We are about 3 miles from a base and the kabooms feel WAY too close.
lol, you poor thing! I grew up in Virginia Beach next to a naval base. You wouldn't think there'd always be planes flying over... nope! :P
This, except change "Virginia Beach" to "Puget Sound Naval Shipyard, Keyport and Bangor."
Unable to even.

You don't understand the appeal of Benedict Cumberbatch / think he's fug / don't know who he is? WATCH SHERLOCK. Until you do, your negative opinion of him will not be taken seriously.

One benefit was once I hit about 16, it was fun to flirt with the navy men. They looked so good in their uniforms!
LOL! I had the opposite experience. Growing up around a naval base cured me of any desire to have anything to do with *squids.
*I use that word with affection.
I much prefer a man in a Marine uniform than a man in a Navy uniform.

I must say, I did have a soft spot for the Marines. We had quite a few of those around, too. We just had a sh!t ton of every sort of soldier, come to think of it. Norfolk was one big ass base. Between that, Langley, etc Virginia is def. a big military state.
Tell me about it. Between PSNS, Ft. Lewis and McChord, the Seattle nightlife scene was ripe with military dudes. The Marines were always the nicest of all of the military types that hit on us "townies".

The base is a mega-base (army/air force) so we get a little bit of everthing.
Ha yeah, I've met all sorts of military men in my lifetime. I always had a great affection and respect for them, but personally did not want to marry one because I had several friends whose dads were in the military and were often deployed, and I knew I was too much of a wimp to be apart from my husband that long. I am one of those women who is scared to be alone in the house at night. It is really, really lame.
I may or may not have slept with a baseball bat next to my bedside when DH went to visit his brother in LA last April...
I agree on all accounts:
1. I would totally not be able to be away from my husband for so long. Women married to men in uniform are awesome on all levels and I have so much respect for them. So strong.
2. I hate being home alone. I pretty much stay in one spot until DH gets home if he goes put for a few hours. Sad.

Mad respect for military wives.
Ha! Yup, Lily and I hole up in the bedroom when DH is gone and I start at every little sound while Lily makes WTF faces at me.
LOL I love this thread. I'm also a Va Beach native. After years of getting hit on by squids at the VB oceanfront, I swore I'd never look twice at a Navy man. And then I married one! I told him he got past my "Navy radar" because I can usually pick them out immediately, but not him.
He's on shore duty at a very small base in VA right now, but I can pretty much sleep through any amount of base noise after living the majority of my life near Oceana.
I'm partial to the choker whites myself. DH hates them, but they're hot!
LMAO Is it weird that I just like the ABUs/ACUs?? I don't personally care for the dress uniforms, although I do think the marines look sharp!
Have you seen the new Army dress uniforms? They look similar to the Marines, but without the belt/high collar. My husband just got them and he looks HOT!
OP- I love the sound of artillery normally. "It's the sound of freedom, baby!" (That's what my husband says!) However, being so close to N. Korea right now, I am kind of loving the silence. Silence is good!
