Anyone else house hunting

I am starting to get a bit freaked out.  Seriously freaked out - we have not been able to find anything we like and I feel like until we find a house, I cannot even think about a daycare.  I live in Philadelphia and would want something walking distance from our house because we walk to work.  I am beginning to really worry about what will be - DH and I live in a 1 bedroom apartment that we have been out growing ever since he moved in.

  • We'd like to be.  We're waiting to sell ours though.  It's only been up for 2 months and it's going into winter so we're not freaking out yet.

  • We live in South Jersey and we both work in Philly, so we aren't far from you!

Our 3br 1.5 ba house has been for sale since the begining of April. If we don't have a buyer by March we are probably going to give up for a few years.

I can't imagine selling, buying and moving with a newborn.

We don't HAVE to move, we just really wanted to. And now that we are adding another person to the house, moving to a bigger place would be awesome.

    We'll see...

  • We are having the opposite problem. We cant sell our townhome!!! Its been on the market for about 7 months and the market has been so slow. We have found about a million houses we love, but aren;t willing to carry two mortgages! God will work it out and you will find what you need when you need it, as will well! :)

  • We're not looking, but I wanted to wish you good luck!  We looked for a year and a half before we found something.  We started looking before our wedding and stopped because it was too much to do at one time as the wedding got closer.  We started again a few months later and found one we totally love.

I could have punched the next person who said, "it's a buyer's market."  They obviously hadn't been to the houses we saw.  A lot for sale, but way over priced and complete disasters.  Good Luck!!!  I'm sure something will come along.

  • We are waiting on house hunting 'til after the baby comes.  I don't want the added stress of moving and everything that comes along with it.

We moved from KY to TX on the spur of the moment and the day we packed up we put our townhome on the market.  We didn't want to carry two mortgages so we opted to rent a 2br apt here and the lease is up in May of 2011.  We are not about to break the lease.  Luckily, our townhome sold and closed in less than two weeks following the move.  If we have known that then we would have considered purchasing a home when we first moved.  We are definitely waiting til after July 2011 to look.  We will just have to put stuff in the garage and park outside.

  • We are looking as well. We are in an apartment and our lease is up in May. We plan on getting more serious in the spring. There is not much we like on the market right now, but, I think that is because of the time of year. A couple of months ago, there was plenty on the market that we liked, but, it was too soon for us to buy. I am not panicking - I truly believe things will just fall into place.

  • Eep!! Good luck!!

We signed our lease in Brooklyn ONE DAY days before I found out I was pregnant. It's a REALLY big one bedroom that's 400$ less than our old place, so we got lucky that it's big enough for two adults and a little one.

We planned on moving out of NYC within 3 years, so now that process is sort of sped up. We're looking at Chicago, Buffalo and Providence. I feel incredibly guilty/sad that I don't have a nursery room for baby, but we're making due.

  • Not only are we looking to buy a house, but we are also going to be moving from Salt Lake City to Portland, Oregon within a month of having the baby...yikes!!  Plus this is the first time we are buying a house so there is added stress because we don't know what we're doing!

My EDD is June 4th, MH finishes his current job on June 30th, and we will be moving right after that!  Luckily his new job is paying for our move so I won't have to worry about packing or loading a truck up like we did for our last move.  As long as I can make it until mid-July, I'll be all good Tongue Tied

  • we plan to start looking at the beginning of the year. Have already seen some stuff we like but everything is a fixer upper in our price range (which we are handy and happy to do but with a baby on the way I fear I won't be able to be productive enough). We've toyed with the idea of staying in our one bedroom and making it work until the baby can crawl or so, but our management here is really bad and I don't know if I will be as accepting of unshoveled walks and broken / locked laundry rooms when there is a little one (I'm pretty pissed about it now being a clumsy pregnant lady!) So we will just see what comes together.

  • We are house hunting, sort of. We put an offer on a short sale back in October. The process is moving along, but we still think it will take a few months, which we are totally okay with! Gives us time to save up even more money. :)

  • To the first poster - if you walk to work, can't you just look for a daycare that's near work?  That will ultimately be somewhat near wherever you end up living, if you're definitely going to continue walking to work.

We luckily have a 2-bedroom condo already.  DH wants to buy a house, but I don't think we'll have an easy time selling the condo, and we won't be able to afford more on a house for a few years - I'd rather wait a few years and get a nicer house than we can afford now.

  • Yes, we sold our place in October and put in a bid on a shortsale.  Those take 3-4 months but I am hoping we find out sooner.  We want to be in our new house by April so we have a couple months to get settled and get DS used to it before the baby arrives.  I told DH that we aren't moving again until our kids are in college and we need to downsize...lol.   Good luck to you!
