Happy spitter?

I know I have heard this mentioned on here before and I think Charlotte may be one.  No pulling in or fussing like she is gassy, but will suddenly spit up a ton.  She doesn't cry, she just let's it fly.  Am I overfeeding her?  Is this just a normal stage?  Last night she slept from 2-7am and then I fed her.  About a hour later a lot came up.  Is she eating too fast?  Is there anything I should be doing differently?   FYI she is FF.  Thanks.

Re: Happy spitter?

  • That's what they called Brooke. She'd eat 3 OZ and spit up at least one! I had to keep her in an upright position for 20 minutes after she ate and a lot of the time, that didn't even matter, I'd lay her down and find her happily splashing away. It eventually went away for B (5 months).

  • DS1 was a happy spitter.  Because he also had problems with a dairy and soy intolerance, we did take him to a ped GI dr.  They had an xray done of his upper GI tract and everything was fine.  They basically said that it was just a laundry problem.  He was EBF until 6 months and then FF after that.  He continued to be a spitter until around 8 months or so.  He was like your daughter though, it didn't bother him at all and it didn't matter what I did (feeding less, keeping him upright, not bouncing him after eating), he would always spit up what I felt was a pretty significant amount.

I eventually got a good attitude about it and used the spitting to justify buying him more clothes b/c I had to change him so many times a day!

  • malia spit up constantly until she started eating solids. it was never projectile ... it just ... came out. but she wasn't fussy or in pain. at one point she needed to be seen for something (I can't remember now) and we couldn't see our regular pedi. both doctors told me the same thing - as long as she's happy and is gaining weight/developing - not to worry.

  • E was like that.  I have no idea if it had anything to do with eating too much or too fast, but he had his clothes changed a lot, and I constantly smelled like half-digested breastmilk.  It never bothered him, and he gained weight like a champ, so we didn't worry about it.  He did it until he started solids.
