Thermometer question

Is my BBT on crack? Within 2 minutes I got 3 completely different temps this morning (97.45, 97.33, and 97.18). It's the Target brand one. Can anyone recommend a more reliable one that will give me accurate, consistent temps?

Re: Thermometer question

  • Your temps will change right after you wake up. Between moving, talking, your never going to get a flat temp.

Only temp as soona s you wake up in the morning and use that one.

  • I have always used the one from CVS but I think no matter what thermometer you use it can vary when you take it multiple times in a row.  It just depends on where it is in your mouth and blah blah blah.  That's why I try to never take my temp multiple times just so I don't second guess it.

Yeah, it's the second guess that's getting to me. It was 97.45 first, but I wasn't sure if I read it right so I took it again and it dropped to 97.33. Then I got curious and took it one more time and it was even lower. Ugh, I hate hyper analyzing everything! I wish I could go back to being blissfully ignorant and believing that the "ovulation calculators" on the Internet were actually true.

  • Like the ladies said, I've never gotten the same reading twice in a row. Usually it's always colder and for some reason I have a theory that you take it out of your wet mouth into the cold air... so the thermometer is colder than normal and thus will give me a lower reading. Strange logic, but that's what I believe.

That makes sense to me. I use the target brand one, and it's brand new, and I think it's readings are quite accurate. Just take the first reading and go with it, so you don't drive yourself crazy! :) I find my temperatures do vary quite a bit unless I take them at the exact same time every day. Seriously, 20 minutes can make a difference!

  • I use a Rite Aid BBT. Like PPs said, just use the first temp... it's the most accurate.
