Noob Q.- Baby Baths

LOL, I feel silly for asking this. How many times a week do you bathe your 2 month old? She really doesn't get dirty although I know she needs to soak to clean her butt. I'm bathing her like 2x's a week. I'm using baby wash and shampoo every bath.

If you do a bath for a night time routine do you always use baby wash? LO's skin was really sensitive, but it has gotten alot better now that shes a little bit older. I want to get a routine started so that she can discriminated daytime naps from bedtime. So when I go to work I don't have to try to get her to go to sleep for like 2 straight hours.

  • Every other day. We use Burt's on her. It's shampoo and baby body wash in one, and it smells frickin' heavenly. We also use the Burt's lotion on her after the bath. Loves it!

  • My DD is 2 months too.  We have a bath about every other night and then lotion before bed.  She doesn't really need it but she loves it so much.  I don't notice a difference in sleep on bath nights and non bath nights though but that may be because she is already a really good sleeper.  I do always use the baby wash because she seems to like that as well.  I use aveeno calming comfort bath wash and follow up with the lotion and I can tell that she likes it more than just washing with the johnsons... don't know what it is about it but it works for her.  Only problem is, she loves the bath so much she cries for a little while when I take her out.  She calms back down pretty quickly though.. by the time I get to the lotion and the pjs she is happy again.  After that- swaddle, cuddle, pacifier and she's in bed.
  • We also wash every 3 days as per the hospital. I personally would not use baby wash every time when going to a daily bath. We're talking about this as well for next week when I go back to work.  Right now she doesn't have a clear bedtime- but I'm not sure the bath would actually help- she goes to sleep when she gets tired.

All of you who use lotion... do you do this when they have dry skin?  Or lotion them up regardless?  We've only used lotion on her once.

  • lotion regardless.  I don't use a lot, I think she mainly enjoys that I give her a bit of a massage with it and she likes that contact.  I think that having the lotion with the massage is extra soothing for her though.
  • I do a bath every night, and use a tiny bit of the bedtime bath... LO's skin can handle it, but everyone's skin is different.

See what works for your baby! Also, if you find a prodect without sulfates (sodium lauryl sulfate,  or laureth sulfate.. common ones!), you should be okay to use it daily if you please.

  • We never bathed DS1 very often bc he had really bad eczema, and DS2 has only gotten one real bath so far - aieee! I wipe off DS2 at least once a day (sometimes more bc he spits up all the time), though.
