Hi, all! I'm glad to finally join this board, and after almost 3 weeks with our little one I am finally able to find some time to get back on here! I lurked some on 3rd trimester boards and loved my birth month board, so I hope to participate alot here, too!
A little about us...Our Madalyn Claire was born November 9th and is our first child. I keep saying she may be our only child, but everyone tells me I'll soon change my mind
We started out breastfeeding, but with difficulty it soon turned to pumping and feeding through the bottle. Which is definitely double the work, especially in the middle of the night! She had a traumatic birth, but is very healthy now and we're all doing great! I'll be working part-time again soon, and my DH is already back to work in the Navy. We're still trying to figure things out (and just learned that Luvs diapers do NOT work for us!) and hope to come on here for advice!
So my first question is...is anyone else using Vitamin D supplements? Did your pedi tell you to? I just recieved a sample in the mail of them, but have never been told to use them before. I looked on the AAP website, and it does have an article that recommends it for breastfed babies. Any opinions or experiences? I'll be chatting with my dr soon, just curious!
Re: Intro and question to BF/pumping moms!
My pedi recommended them because breastmilk doesn't have much Vitamin D in it. However, my DD got extremely fussy on them so we stopped giving them to her. I think most babies do fine on them.
Your DD was born on my birthday
Yes, my pedi recommended them for DS. We had a different pedi when DD was little and that pedi recommended them, too.
My pedi prescribed a vitamin for LO which has vitamin D in it but is also have I believe vitamin a and vitamin k (it's called tri vi sol). And as my siggy suggests I EBF.
Oh and on an interesting note, our babies share a birthday.
What a fabulous day November 9th is for all these great people to be born on!!
I will definitely be asking my pedi why I hadn't been told about them by him, the visiting nurse or the hospital! It seems like the general consensus is to use them!
I had asked this question a while ago too because like you said i had them but no one told me to use them. Some people say they use them, others say they dont. It saids its really only needed in high altitude with little sunlight during the day, and i dont live in that situation and LO & I are always on the go outside. Since my pedi never said anything, i usually only give him the drops once or twice a week. If it was really an issue i think she would of told me at his past three doctor checkups he had, and she never mentioned it. When i go back for his one month ill ask her, otherwise its not really an issue for me.
Also: I had issues with BF the first few weeks also, so i pumped for a while to get my boobs to roughen up and now im back to breastfeeding with such success. Im not telling you to do that but im just letting you know for future reference if you want to try again or think your supply is decreasing (because mine was with pumping) than you should give it a shot again after your breasts toughen up, its such a different experience than what i had the last few weeks.
Santas little helper!
