Babies: 0 - 3 Months

Another fever question

I know if it reaches 100.4 we head to the ER.  Its not, however he has had a low grade fever for a week now (anywhere between normal and 100.1 - usually around 99.7-99.8).  We went to the pedi this past monday his lungs were clear and other than a little congestion and the low grade fever nothing else seemed wrong.  At what point does the never ending low fever become concerning? I'll call the pedi again tomorrow morning but I'm curious as to everyone's experiences. thanks.

Re: Another fever question

  • I would worry after 3 days. I have had plenty of experence with fevers and baby's. My youngest son now 5 had febrile siezures since he was 3 months and if his white blood cells were too high and his fever was at just 99.9 he would have a siezure so I worried more. Now just if it last more than 3 days. It could be a virus or an infection though to tell you the truth if it was an infection the temp. would probably keep going up. Also if baby was overly fussy then I would be more concerned. Did your LO have and ear infection? Sometimes pedi's let them go without meds and other pedis treat with antibiotics I have had different pedis do both. (Nedless to say I traded peds after my childs ear drum ruptured and the ignorant Ped did not treat it.)

  • He didnt have an ear infection either and yes he's fussy but he's always fussy :) Its hard to tell if it's more than usual. Since the fever doesnt keep going up I also tend to think its not an infection - ugh...and the congestion is awful at times

  • I'm sorry, but I'd deff. call the pedi. back tomorow because he has had a fever for so long you never know when they are little.
