Emerson ~ Boy or Girl?

I always thought this was a boys name, but lately I have heard of it being used for a girl.

I think boy's name when I hear Emerson, but there is that whole "give a girl a traditionally boy's name" trend right now.

I think any name that ends in -son should be strictly for boys (with the exception of Alison).

Boy 100%. It was on our boy list. It is definitely trendy to name girls this name however.

I really don't care for the name at all, but it is definitely a girls' name now.  A few years ago, Teri Hatcher named her daughter Emerson and it became kinda trendy.  I had two Emersons back when I taught kindergarten, and now an Ellison.
