white bump on gums?

My LO has been unusually fussy since yesterday.  She's also been drooling more than usual, and putting anything she can get her hands on into her mouth.  Today I noticed a tiny white bump on her gums...it's on the bottom just to the right of center.  I've been doing some research online, but as always, it could be anything from teething to canker sores.  Based on what I'm seeing, I'm leaning towards teething (even though it's super early for that) just because she seems to have all the symptoms, and the little white bump doesn't look like much else.

I'm just curious if anyone else has noticed this in their LO, and if you think I should call the pedi or just wait it out.  She is totally content right now playing in her bouncy seat, so I'm not too worried...just wondering what the other bumpies think :)

Re: white bump on gums?

  • From what you've described, that little bump is probably her tooth right under the gum getting ready to pop through. That's how DD's looked when she got her 1st tooth.

  • If you're breastfeeding it could be thrush.  My lil man had it and had white bumps on his toungue and gums, made him really fussy since it was painful to suck and also known to cause gas.

This. Lucas had one a month ago. No teeth yet.

I thought it might be this as well, but when I read the info it said they would go away a week or 2 after birth.  Do you think they would form at just under 3 months?

I don't think it's thrush because it's just the one tiny bump, and it's definitely not painful for her to suck.  In fact, that's all she seems to want to do!

Yes, they can form later...not sure why that article limits it. DH's dad is a dentist and say it's very normal for them to form any time under 5 months or so. They are harmless and will go away soon.
