2nd (or subsequent) Time Moms... a Question...

I've had awful pressure in my chest for the last few weeks-months (who hasn't right?) from baby sitting so high.  It was making it difficult to breathe, eat, all that fun stuff.  Last night all of a sudden while baby was moving around like a mad woman (seriously thought I was going to re-create the scene from "Aliens" except with a baby), the pressure disappeared, I can breathe again... perfect, right?  I slept like a rock for the first time in forever.  Today, I've definitely got an increase in pressure in my hip area/lower abdomen and lower back (lower back is not contraction pain, just pressure - I definitely know the difference from my 2 PTL scares lol).

Question for you 2nd time moms: Could this be the baby dropping?

I have my 32 week appointment on Tuesday with my doc so I plan on asking him then, but figured I'd try and get an idea if this is what you girls felt your first or subsequent pregnancies.  Did you call your docs when the baby dropped, or no?  Thanks, ladies :)

  • Not a second timer but that sounds like it might be to me.

And I had to LOL because I thought the same thing (Aliens movie) last night because my LO was going bonkers.  I asked him if I had swallowed my iPod or something because it was like he was breakdancing or something crazy, my stomach was rippling and rolling it was so weird/awesome.  Haha.  Yay for active babies.

  • That what it sounds like to me.  My daughter does the same thing right now. The pressure actually feels a bit like braxton-hicks, except that only the bottom part of my belly feels it, and when I touch it with my hand, it's not actually hard.  Weirdness.

  • I wouldnt call the doctor, and it isnt necessarily that the baby has dropped. Some days I feel LO up high to the point where it's tough to breathe, and some days my pelvis hurts and I cant stop peeing because she's so low. They can still move up and down quite a bit at this point.

Also, dropping means nothing-I dropped at around 32w with DS (and he never moved back up) and I ended up going past my EDD.

  • It could be the baby has dropped. If you notice you have to pee way more and you can feel a lot of movement on your cervix, then she's in your pelvis now and getting into position.

I dropped around 36 weeks with Olivia and I went 9 days overdue, so dropping doesn't mean anything, really.

  • Yep that sounds like what happened!  No need to call the dr but they will probably confirm that for you at your appt!

  • Thanks, ladies.  I know dropping doesn't necessarily mean anything - just curious as to if that's what it might be.  All her movements are a lot lower now, so I'm sure she's just chillin' low these days.  I'll see what the doc has to say on Tuesday.  I get a growth scan too, so I'm psyched to see how much this booger weighs! :)
