Please? DH requested both sweet potato pie AND pumpkin pie and I put my foot down...I am NOT making both from scratch. So we compromised...he'll choose one or the other and then i choose the 2nd pie i'm making. Only...I have no ideas! I've made cherry and/or apple the last few years and I only started that because I got tired of making VA peanut pie.
My parents are the bomb...seriously. My oldest brother recently got reassigned to Germany and that's usually who we plan T-giving around (since he's military) my middle brother is a jacka$$ and basically still disowns me, and thanksgiving is off limits for him anyway because they always go to SIL's mother's house...God forbid she come join us, but hey...whatever. Even when my brother was deployed on his 2nd tour, they were like "well, can you just schedule your thanksgiving on friday instead?"
My DH works retail...so he has to get up and be at work at 3am on black friday...i have to work too, but only 11-7...so we wouldn't be able to make the drive and get back in time for him to get enough sleep. So what do my parents come up with? I have an OB appt in town the wednesday before, so my mother is driving back with me and my dad is coming the next day with the turkey. I feel so lucky that they thought of us this year...it means so much especially after the move and the crap that my middle brother is putting all of us through. So they got the turkey...DH has all the side dishes...and I have the desserts.
Help?
Re: Share your Thanksgiving dessert ideas!!!
I make a super delicious dessert called Banana Split pie... my mouth is watering... it is super fast and easy! Here is the recipe!
Ingredients:
*makes two pies*
directions:
- First you mix the 2 things of cream cheese with the powdered sugar... I start with a cup of the sugar and 1 cream cheese and then when it is good and mixed I add the other cream cheese and taste to see if its sweet enough, if not add powdered sugar! (keep the cream cheese out for about 2-3 hours prior to making so it can get soft)
- Next you spread the mixture into the cookie crusts.
- Then take your pineapple chunks, strain them, then press them (however many desired) into the creamy mixture. Place this in the fridge for at least 4 hours.
- After 4 hours or better yet about 2 hours before serving slice the banana into thin/medium slices and spread them over the pineapple/cream mixture.
- Now spread or "whip" the cool whip with a spoon over the bananas and add your strained cherries on top
- Finally sprinkle with nuts and put back in the fridge for a couple hours!
Sorry I am not the best at recipe writing lol! This dessert is AMAZING the mixture at the bottom litterally taste like delicious ice cream! Also you can add sliced strawberries on top of the bananas but don't do so unless you are serving within a couple hours... i have found the strawberries can get soggy! Hope some of you ladies enjoy!I love this one cause it is super easy AND you can use it year round!! People love it...

2 - 8 ounce packages cream cheese, softened
1 1/4 cup sugar, divided
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 egg, separated
1 teaspoon cinnamon
Pour cream cheese mixture over layer of crescent rolls. Open and layout second tube of crescent rolls on a piece of waxed paper. Seal all the perforations. Place this layer over the cream cheese layer, peeling off the waxed paper.
Slightly beat egg white and brush over the top. Combine 1/4 cup sugar with cinnamon and sprinkle on top.
Bake at 350 degrees 25-30 minutes. Cool and store in the refrigerator.
What I do this time of year is Safeway brand cream cheese comes out with a pumpkin pie flavored cream cheese. I use this and DH loves it and when he took it to work last time they ate it all before the potluck!! Also if you do not put the cinnamon and sugar on top it is nice to use a spicy peper jam ( I like raspberry chipotle or something like that) a couple of tablespoons of it mixed into the cream cheese makes a great potluck dish year round...
If you're interested, I have a white chocolate mousse pie recipe. It's no bake with a graham cracker crust. I serve it with a raspberry sauce, but for thanksgiving-y stuff you could do spiced apple or something (but let's be real, I'd eat raspberry whenever).
I say if you're interested solely because I don't want to get up and type it out if you're not, because it's in a cookbook. laaaazy.
Everything sounds so scrumptious so far!! I haven't made up my mind yet =P
ps. Ladies, don't get up just for me, lol, I have been feeling that way for days now...so no worries...if I don't find something, i'll bug you later for it. =D

It's my go-to Thanksgiving recipe, and it's sooooo delicious! I've made it many times for family, and they've been requesting it for "every holiday this year"
We did a semi-Thanksgiving last weekend since DH will be working on Thanksgiving and I made a 3 layer Pumpkin Cheesecake from Betty Crocker. First layer is a gingersnap crust, second layer is regular cheesecake, and third layer in pumpkin cheesecake. SUPER easy to make and delicious!

Instead of the traditional apple pie - I like to do an apple cider pie. It's not quite as sweet as the standard apple pie since the cider gives a little twang making it great for pair with sweet stuff like ice cream & carmel syrup. You can also make your two crust pies extra feastive by using cookie cutters to cut leaf shapes out of the top crust and using those layered across the top.
Other ideas of the "not pie" variety are pumpkin cupcakes (made easy using a spice cake mix as a base), pumpkin cut-out cookies, or smores cookies (not really thanksgiving, but still pretty yummy).
