I just left the doctor for my 29 wk appt. I told him about the stringy discharge that i've had for the past week. Its yellow/white/clear in color with no smell. So he decided to do a vaginal exam and found out that my outer cervix is open almost all the way and my inner cervix is trying to open. He sent me to the hospital (Mother/Baby) to get a steroid shot to help progress the development of her lungs, I get another one tomorrow. If its opened any farther come my next appt in 2wks, ill be permanently admitted in mother/baby till i have her. He isn't going to do anything to stop labor (really don't want him to, my body has a tendency to try to get rid of foreign objects, so if he tries to stop labor it could be very dangerous to me and LO). Should I be scared?? I figured LO was going to come early but I didn't think THIS early!!
*my body has a tendency to try to get rid of foreign objects*
This is my 3 pregnancy, the other 2 ended in miscarriage at about
13-19wks. Reasons: My body tends to react toward pregnancy much in the
same way that it does an infection, it tries to fight it.
Re: Opening Cervix?? Help. (TMI)
i had the exact same type of discharge. I went to see my doctor and he did an exam and i was 2 cm dilated and the membranes were hanging. I had a rescue cerclage put in that day and delivered 2 weeks later at 23w4d. I'm not sure what to tell you about your body rejecting foreign objects.. if you really think you're okay with delivering in the next couple weeks that's your call i guess, but if you want to postpone labor maybe you could talk to him about the possibility of a cerclage as well.
good luck! i hope everything works out well for you and your LO!
Thanks, you really made me feel much better. I would love for her to stay in there as long as possible. Me & doctor concerned about trying to stop due to other health factors ( especially very high risk of me becoming pre-eclamptic).
While I understand that you want to stay pregnant as long as possible, dilating could be your body's way of telling you something. I was 2cm dilated 50% effaced at 24 weeks 5days and delivered at 25 weeks 6days. I had a uterine infection which caused a partial placental abruption. If they had tried interventions to keep me pregnant my baby would have died. I would try to find out why you are dilating and then make your decision. GL!
Are you on bedrest? The steroids will make a big difference so it is good that you are getting them. It sounds to me (just from personal experience) that you have an incompetent cervix and I am surprised that they did not put a cerclage in.
Good luck and tell your LO to stay put!
That's called 'funneling' and my cervix did that as early as 20 weeks. I was on strict bed rest from week 20-30 and the girls were born at week 30. I had steriod shots at week 24, and half a series when I went into labor again at week 30 (they came before I could finish).
The steriods will definitely help, but you do want to keep your baby in as long as possible. Strict bedrest, and maybe even hospitalization for monitoring.
I went into PTL at week 26 and luckily they were able to stop it. Again at week 30, but they couldn't stop it then. I was very lucky that the girls are healthy...I saw lots of preemies who weren't so lucky....
I agree. My membranes ruptured and they think it's b/c I had an infection and my body was trying to get rid of it. Your body knows better and is probably trying to keep the baby in the only way it knows how. The steroids help out and so does the magnesium drip (helps keep you from going into labor by slowing things down and w/ the baby's neurological system). I hope everything goes well
I started experiencing a weird discharge at the end of my 23rd week. I saw a doctor and was diagnosed with an incompetent cervix at 24w2d and was 1 cm dilated. I was put on very strict bedrest, given steroid shots, and on magnesium sulfate to help ward off any contractions.
I delivered at 26w2d. My LO is doing well now.
Hugs and prayers!
I'd def. put myself on bedrest now, with some dilation. You really want to keep baby cooking as long as possible, as long as there is no danger to you.
As for the cerclage, I don't think they will do them after 24 or 25 weeks. I don't think you are a candidate now. Good luck, and hang in there!
