xp: new camera suggestions?! thx!

Hi there!

I have a simple point and click sony cyber-shot that is about a year old, the pictures it takes are just fine, but I really want to get a "nicer" camera for when LO is born and to capture all those great baby moments!

Does anyone have any suggestions? I don't want something super high-tech that I can't figure out how to work, and we're looking to spend like $250-$300 hoping there will be some good deals on black friday/cyber monday..

Does anyone have a 'nicer" camera that takes good pics?!

Thanks girls!!

  • I have a NikonD3000

I think it was about $500 or so including the 35 and 50 mm lenses and a case...maybe a memory card too, but I can't remember.

I would bet you could get a great deal on black friday on that camera or something similar. It's awesome and we love using it to take photos of our niece! There was almost no set up other than date and time which it walked you through on first use.

  • We have a Nikon d60 but the d40 is really nice and you might be able to find some sort of screaming deal on one over the holidays.  I really like our Nikon!  It was a must to be able to catch first smiles and such!  I have several friends that have canons as well.  I think if you could find a good deal on either a nikon or canon dlsr your in good shape.

  • thanks ladies! :) my brother and a good friend also suggested a Nikkon, so I think that's the direction we'll look!

I just don't want something too crazy complicated!

  • I just got the Nikon coolpix S8100 (the new one Ashton Kutcher uses in the commercials?)... used it yesterday at my shower and OMG I LOVE IT!  The pictures are fantastic, even in low-light!  It was $299 at Target :) It also takes HD video.  GL!
