Hey ladies. So I have read that your not suppose to put any kind of blankets on newborns in their cribs. But I keep hearing mixed responses about this. My relatives and friends say they all did and their babies were fine. But most books say its a no no.
I worry about LO though since she will be born in January though. I of course want to keep her warm at night. We registered for sleep sacks which I heard are great and lots of warm long sleeve jammies with feet. But I just find it odd to just lay her in the crib with nothing on her or around her.
What do you ladies think??
Re: Blankets on newborns??
Blankets seem to be one of those topics that everyone says "I will NEVER do this with my baby" while they're pregnant, but in theory people actually do it when the baby comes.
In the first few months, I used the sleep sacks a lot because he slept well in them and we used the swaddle. Once he hit about 4 months old, he hated sleeping like that and we ended up using pajamas and a light blanket instead. By that point I wasnt overly concerned about suffocation. However, most babies kick them off anyway so you will probably only end up using blankets for naptime.
They should not have blankets for the first year. My daughter who was a dec baby hated to be swaddled used these from carters. I would use a sleeper under it then once I layed her down for the night put this one her. We will do the same for the baby. I only needed 2

For the summer we used these with a light sleeper under it.

Between warm pjs and/or a sleepsack, the baby should be plenty warm, I think.
Those sleepsacks can be thick and you can get the ones made of fleece. You want to be careful not to overheat them, though (that is a SIDS risk as muchj as loose blankets are).
Uising a sleepsack or swaddling them in the pjs is the way to go. People are going to tell their babies turned out fine with loose blankets because information on SIDS has changed over the years. Going with no blankets is really the safest way to go.
We're using both of those products as well. The Carters ones are very long, thick and should be great for the winter.
No blankets.
None.
DD was a summer baby, but I plan to do pretty much the same thing for this LO.
We swaddled her for a little over 3 months, and that kept her very warm. This time we'll swaddle if LO likes it with a pair of warm jammies underneath. If we don't swaddle, he'll wear a onesie, fleece jammies, and a sleep sack.
During the day I would put a light blanket on her when she was sleeping, but only if I was awake and could see her.
I know I a lot of people who used blankets, but most new moms I know didn't until their LOs were 1.
