both my mom and my MIL want to be called Grandma. DD knows my mom and knows that she is "Grandma".....so on the rare occasion that MIL decides to remember that she has a granddaughter and come see her, poor P is confused. yesterday she fully expected to see my mom when we told her that Grandma was here to see her.....P wasn't too happy to see MIL and she looked at me like "that isn't my Grandma!?!"
i guess with time she will get it, but just wondering if everyone else uses two different names like granny or nanny? even though i know this won't fly with MIL.
and i have caught myself saying "your other Grandma".....but i am thinking this won't work either....![]()
Re: are both grandmothers called "grandma"?
We call our moms "Grandma Lastname." But both our moms are local and see DS on a regular basis so there has to be a distinction. Both wanted to be Grandma (not Granny, Nana, etc.) so we had to either go with first or last names. We really should do first though as my maiden name is hard to pronounce.
Luckily he only has one grandpa!

As a kid I always went by "Grandma First Name"
My MIL wants to be called 'Nana' and I hate that name (not knocking anyone who uses that name, just NMS). However, I'll let my daughter choose what she wants to call her grandmothers...it's up to her.
I wanted my parents to be MomMom and PopPop but my mom hates those names. My family is from NJ and all the other kids in my family call their grandparents that.
I called both my grans "Gran Lastname".
Ella has a Gran, and if it goes according to MIL's plan, a GG (her last name starts with G).
We call all of the grandparents and great grandparents "Grandma Firstname" or "Grandpa Firstname". My DD is 3 and knows the difference between all of them.

Our family blog
my mom is grandma... and my MIL is MIMA(i say your crazy grandmother)
when I was little we just used their first names... Grandma Jean and Grandma Annie...
IT worked lol
For the most part, I think kids grow into calling their grandparents certain names, if that makes sense. For example, I "named" my grandmothers Nana and Meme (like Me! Me!) respectively, even though before I could talk they were referred to as Grandma.
For my kids, my mom is Grammy or Gammy, my stepmom is Grammy Julie, and my MIL is Memere (that side is French-Canadian).
We do Grandma Lastname...which is what I called my Grandma's growing up.
My niece differentiates by things her Grandparents are into. Kitty Grandma & Silly Grandpa and Camper Grandma & Camper Grandpa.
Haha, we call my mom Grandma Crazy. We need to stop that before DS can talk!
When growing up Dh called his grandparents Grandma lastname and Grandpa lastname for his Dad's parents and Grandma Shirley and Grandpa Shirley (Shirley is his gma's first name somehow grandpa got it too)
I always called my grandparents Grandma and Grandpa on my Mom's side and Mom-mom and Pop-pop on my Dad's side.
That being said I wanted my kids to be able to differentiate between both sets of grandparents so before my trio was born I asked my parents what they wanted to be called. DH's parents were already Grandma and Grandpa to our nieces and nephew. So my parents are Grammy and Pop-pop.
