My ds loves his pacifier. Loves it. It soothes him and calms him down. He is going to be 1 very soon and I dont want this to go on. How can I kick the addiction..
DS only takes his for naps/bedtime. And sometimes he doesn't want it, it depends. So I'm going to go with it and let him have it if he wants for a few more months. If I were you, I'd ween him to naptime/bedtime only. Then worry about completely weening him after that. IMO it's not bad to give it to them for sleeping at this age...like you said, it calms them. If it's in his mouth 24/7, then I think that's too much. GL!
ds only gets it for naps and bedtime and is doing great!! we are going to let him have it for awhile, I dont want him to resort to his hand (which I obviously can't take away), i would rather him soothe with this for a few more months and go from there

Ditto this. I don't generally get concerned about paci use until age 2+.
Apparently if you poke holes in the nipple of the paci with a needle or straight pin, it's not as satisfying and then your LO will stop wanting it. One mom I know tried this & said it was a miracle!
As much as I didn't want a paci addiction, I wish we had that now. DD sucks the first 2 fingers on her left hand to fall asleep, it's cute but hard to break the habit.
For a paci habit, if you poke holes in the nipple it looses its suction, there for it doesn't sooth and suck back like it usually would, and they loose intrest. Since he's so young, its hard to do the "paci fairy" or something like that or cut it all appart to say it has ouchies.
But, I know several moms who have poked holes and it works, you can slowly make them bigger if need be.

This!
It depends on which one your LO would do best with. My DS does cold turkey better than gradual.

We've just basically stopped letting him have it, except for in the car and at night/for naps.
The past couple of days we haven't let him have it in the car either, and he's done great! We just make sure he has a fun toy to play with.
