Now that we're just 6-ish weeks off from DD's birthday (
) I'm starting to think about how weaning will go.
I know I want to stop pumping at 12 months (I WOH three days/week) and am inclined to keep nursing when I'm home (mostly morning & night) for a while after that.
Advice? I assume at a year, we'll just replace her normal breastmilk bottles with whole milk, right?
Re: What are your weaning plans?
I'm going to keep her morning session for a while I think. She really likes it, and it usually helps us get like an extra 30 mins of sleep (I nurse laying down in bed with her)
Other than that, I'm cutting out the nursing session after her first nap next week, and I'll probably cut out the pm nap session around 11.5 months. I'll let her drop the nighttime feeding when she's ready, but it's becoming hit or miss now. She doesn't always take it. So, I don't see it going much past 1 yr. If that.

We're already doing whole milk in sippies when he's at daycare, and I nurse at home. I'm just going to switch to all sippies of milk at a year. I might nurse him at night for a little longer, though.
You might want to be careful about switching to milk all at once. Some kids need to gradually switch to get used to the taste. DS will eat/drink whatever I give him (even if he doesn't like it, he'll still eat it), so I was pretty lucky that I could just switch to milk with no problems.

Thanks for the advice! I gave her a bit of milk the other day just to see if she'd take it and she sucked it down with no problem. No surprise there--she's a big eater.
I am not really sure....
I plan on nursing before bed for sure....but the other times are kinda iffy.
Georgia still nurses about 5-6 times a day on average....but most of them are like 5 minutes. She really wants to nurse, but then realizes that playing & being nosey is more fun.
I was told by my lactation consultant that you can drop a feeding by substituting it with an activity or something...like go for a walk, or play with a new toy....something distracting KWIM?
I would try introducing whole milk slowly though, just to make sure she is ready. I have given Georgia whole milk in her sippy, but she just let it drool ot of her mouth LOL
My older daughter never drank milk as a baby either....I had to give her dairy in other forms instead....
I am going to drop one pump session every week or two until I am down to none. I want to do it slow because I heard if you quit cold turkey it is very painful. Keira is allergic to milk, so right now she get one bottle of soy milk and the rest of the time she gets breastmilk a day.
Edit: jenny1980~I love your siggy pic! So very cute!
I work part-time and was getting less and less each day pumping so I have stopped pumping while at work and DS gets formula bottles the days I work. We'll be transitioning to organic whole milk at 11 months, per his pedi.
We're still going strong with morning and nighttime nursing and I don't see any reason to stop based soley on age, I'm going to go with his cues past one year.
