Would these be a good one to start off with? (just buying one). Or does it even matter...are bottles just bottles whether they cost 3 bucks or 10 bucks?
I never used that kind before, but I loved the Avent bottles for my oldest and that is what I am going to use this time too. Different bottles have different flows and that can affect how much air the baby gets while drinking which can affect gassiness and stuff. Also, sometimes different shaped bottles have the effect as well. I personally have never tried the Gerber kind but I have not heard anything bad or good about it. My oldest wouldn't use the playtex ones, he didn't like the nipple I guess, so I switched to the Avent and we were good. It really depends on the baby. Good luck

I'm obviously not a mom yet, but from what I've read, there's no point in spending $$$ on expensive vented bottles like Dr. Brown's and Born Free, until you know whether your baby will actually have colic or gas issues. (Babies are supposed to burp and pass gas, anyway.) Plus, those bottle systems have lots of parts that can be a pain to clean.
I registered for a few inexpensive Gerber NUK bottles and a couple of extra nipples. They say they work well for transitioning from BFing to the bottle, since I will have to pump once I go back to work. I figure I'll try the cheap bottles first, and if those don't work for baby, then I'll try other options.
In my le leche league meeting they were spoken well of. The only recomendation was to get slow flow like one drop per second when held on it's side. But this was for woman BF and having to use bottles at times. Also I have heard from lots of moms not to spends lots on nipples until you figure out which one your baby likes. Just get like 1-2
My niece used these. She had other types, but these were the ones she liked. SIL bf and she had no problems going back and forth from breast to bottle. The only thing I noticed vs. the Avent (which my other niece 6 weeks older used) is that the cover doesn't touch the nipple, and therefore if the diaper bag is thrown or they aren't securely in a bottle holder upright, they will leak. I registered for a few of these and the MAM because SO loves the MAM for some reason, so we're going to see which she likes.
My nephew loved NUK bottles. They were the only bottles and only binky's he would take. I have worked in many daycares and I've chosen to use the Playtex Drop Ins, just because its easier to get the air out so that baby is not filling up on air. Most of the babies I've been around who used these bottles seemed to be alot happier babies, and less gassy and fussy! They have been around for years, my mom used them with me even LOL and i believe they will work out fine for LO.
