Babies: 9 - 12 Months

bottle strike

So we're introducing DS to solids foods, and I'm only BFing three times a day (after each main meal). I am hoping to get DS on a sippy cup by June, but as of now, he doesn't even use a bottle. Should I start the bottle and then the cup? And is it like getting him used to new foods? Just keep trying?

Re: bottle strike

  • Your DS is 11 months? No, I would not introduce a bottle.  Give him milk/BM/water in a sippy cup now..

my DD only drinks her bottle at breakfast time, her morning and afternoon nap and bedtime.. so 4 bottles a day, and all the rest of the time it's she has a sippy cup of water and solid foods.. but she's been on a bottle since birth

  • My DS rarely used a bottle so once we got him used to using the sippy cup I didn't offer a bottle anymore and he does fine.  I am a SAHM  but I do substitute teach once in a while and when he does go to a sitter he does great with the sippy of BM.  I also nurse only 3 times a day, so when he is at the sitter he gets BM once in a sippy, around noon.

It did take him a while to get used to the sippy so just keep trying.  My thought was that I didn't want him to get attached to the bottle so taking it away at an early age (or never offering it) was easier.  Good luck!
